Why do all Art Archives use JPEG?!?!?!?!
I'm trying to download high-resolution photos/scans of historically significant art, but everywhere I go, they are heavily compressed with the JPEG file format, and I'd be super lucky to discover them to be more than 1000x1000 pixels.
I swear to god this is such total bullshit. How the hell can we enjoy these wonderful works of art without spending $1000's of dollars to fly to various museums in Europe!?!?!?
I spent like 2 hours looking for a good version of Salvador Dali's 'The Ascension Of Christ' and this is a section of the best image I could find: https://preview.redd.it/b1pg1ltvvc1h1.png?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=4e083fc2ce268067926e6827f79d021df5f8cbe4
