Cafe Landwer in Century City & Porter Ranch is deeply political..

I was genuinely excited when I heard a new restaurant called Café Lawder was opening in Porter Ranch. It looks like a cute spot, and I love trying new cafés, especially ones getting buzz online.

But after doing some research, I felt like I should share what I found so people can make informed choices.

With everything happening in the current political climate, I think it matters to know where the businesses we support are rooted and what they are connected to.

Café Lawder is directly tied to Café Landwer in Israel. The brand was originally founded in Berlin, Germany in 1919, and the family relocated to Tel Aviv, where they established the first coffee roasting house in the country. The brand has been deeply embedded in Israel ever since, and today operates around 80 locations there.

What a lot of people don't know is that Café Landwer's co-founder and CEO, Nir Caspi, served as a member of Shayetet, the Israeli Special Forces, the equivalent of the U.S. Navy SEALs. He has publicly linked his military background to how he runs the business, and the company's parent has also been listed as a cooperating organization with the Herzliya Conference, an Israeli national security conference with heavy Israeli government involvement.

This isn't just a new local café. It is part of a well-established Israeli franchise with deep ties to the Israeli military and government infrastructure.

The Porter Ranch location is being led by an Egyptian TikTok creator named Amir who already has a location in Century City, which explains a lot of the hype around this opening. He seemed like a genuine guy but that doesn't remove that this is a deeply rooted Israeli franchise, sorry Amir but you shoulda known better.

For anyone who is politically or socially conscious, or who follows BDS, it is worth knowing the origins and scale of the brands we support before deciding if they align with your values.

Not telling anyone what to do. Just putting the information out there.

Posting from a throwaway for obvious reasons. Do your own research.
