My new favorite device
I have Ray-Ban Meta glasses for about 3 weeks now and they completely changed the way I use devices.
I walk a lot, usually with my dog, and never liked the normal phone workflow for simple things. If I want to take a photo, I have to pull out my iphone, sometimes unlock it, open the camera, take the photo, then put it back. None of that feels natural. I don’t even like carrying a phone in my pocket.
With glasses, taking a photo is one action. Because of that, I take way more photos now. Mostly photos of my dog and squirrels or trees that getting a little more yellow every day.
The same thing happened with audio. I started listening to much more music because my ears are still open. The sound is clean, you can even hear lyrics more clearly word by word. Calls now only through glasses.
And they remove the phone from a lot of small interactions.
Take a photo.
Ask a quick question.
Set a reminder or timer.
Make a note.
Photo of product I want to remember.
Log something like food or calories.
I spend most of my day working at a desk with 2 monitors, so reducing the number of times I have to pick up another screen has been nice. I use my phone much less now.
I also don’t really understand the level of concern around public recording with glasses. From my perspective, nothing changed. People record around me countless times without any permission. But I never knowingly been recorded by someone wearing smart glasses cause world has billions of phones and idk 100 000 glasses?. And if someone secretly recorded me, then by definition I probably wouldn’t know they used a phone, glasses, or superduper spy camera that amazon sells for 20$.
If you already wear glasses, especially prescription glasses, it makes even more sense. You already wearing the object anyway, and now it can replace your headphones, camera, and a bunch of small phone interactions.
This is probably my fav new device in years.
