Be aware if you plan on using these as daily glasses

I ordered my pair of Meta RayBans only about 6 months before the frame started to split right where the power button is. I wear these as my daily glasses with prescription lenses in them, but I've never been hard on them at all. The split is now big enough that the power button doesn't make contact with the internals, and the glasses will turn off I don't apply pressure to the arm. I might have to try and glue or tape it, otherwise they're basically useless. I assumed that this would definitely be covered under warranty as a material fault, but nope. They gave me options to buy other styles of frames at a discount, which I can't do because my $200+ prescription lenses wouldn't fit in them anyway.

I'm really upset with the customer service, and honestly wish I had never bought these. They're not even close to a year old and already broke, and they can't do me the favor to replace the arm. Just a warning to anyone planning to buy and use these for more than just sunglasses.

Discussion: what do you think about wearing AI glasses to work?

I’m starting a new job tomorrow and I have a pair of Oakleys and Raybans, both are prescription. I’m not about to wear them to a new job until I know for certain they (the employer) don’t mind.

Seems like they would be a no-no in the corporate world. I can see the lines at the HR department now…but, maybe I’m wrong?

What are you doing or what are your thoughts?
PS - I work in IT as a network and voice engineer.

2 questions!

When making a call on mine, every time people say Im really quiet and nobody seems to hear me properly. Is it likely mine are faulty or is the mic just terrible?

Also I was recently at a theme park and have seen people filming on coasters with them, but Im terrified mine will fly off my face, what head straps are people using to keep them glued to my head??

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Did I waste my semester break (and most of my research grant) building this?

Hey everyone,

I’m a CS major. During my recent semester break I had some leftover research grant money and zero desire to just sit around. So I decided to build the thing I kept wishing existed.

After dealing with the usual frustrations with Dumb Meta AI on Ray-Ban glasses (and the same limitations on regular wireless earbuds), I started coding. The goal was simple:

  • Use whatever wake word I want (or train a completely new one)
  • Talk back and forth naturally without saying the wake word every single time
  • Bring my own API keys for stronger models when I want them
  • Work with normal wireless earbuds and Ray-Ban Meta glasses
  • Voice reminders, notification reading, better vision descriptions, and the ability to live stream to non-Meta platforms

I called it Niya… no reason in particular… or it’s my best friend’s name perhaps.

Anyway, it’s Android-only for now (APK is up). I intentionally didn’t burn the entire research grant on tokens yet. I only bought a limited amount. The thinking was: if almost nobody actually uses it, there’s no point stocking a huge pile of credits. So if a sudden wave of people jumps on, you might hit rate limits... If that happens, I'll add additional credits... Just being transparent about that.

I plan to build this for iOS as well… just wanna have some feedbacks first.

The site with the download and more details is: (Just paste it as a URL) "nativelyitsyourassistant.github.io/niya/"

I’m not here to hype it. I’m genuinely curious:

  • Does this solve any real annoyance for you?
  • What feels missing or half-baked?
  • Would you actually use something like this day-to-day?
  • Any features that would make or break it for you?

Be as blunt as you want. I’d rather hear the honest stuff now than after more time and money goes into it.

Question - Version update

Can someone help...I have a pair of Gen 1 (Not stories)...think the update failed. Can someone tell me if this release is the current version, or am I stuck on some kind of place holder version (like Meta AI is telling me I am?)

Meta Glasses Generated an AI Image Instead of Taking a Photo

Today I ran into this problem several times. When I asked my glasses to take a photo using the voice command, they responded that the photo had been created and that I can check the result in the app.

So instead of actually taking a photo, they generated some kind of AI image. This is the first time this has happened in the several months I've been using them. What’s even stranger is that it happened twice in the same day.

I missed the moments I wanted to capture while riding my bike because of this.

What is this exactly? Has anyone else experienced this issue? I really don't want this to happen again in the future.

Which glasses do you recommend?

Hey everyone, my wife and I just started thinking about transitioning into meta glasses but really we have no clue where to start or which are the quality ones. We tried doing some research online but the amount of paid reviews turned us to the actual people who own the glasses. Any advice would help out a lot but we were currently looking at the Gen 2s!

Worst customer care service ever

I contacted support 3 weeks ago, because my glasses broke. They told me that the glasses were under warranty and that I had to choose another model because my headliner gen1 were no longer in production.

The page in which I was supposed to choose was never completed. Just a blank page. I contacted support several times and always got the same answer "we're on it".

I waited but nothing changed at all. It just seems that they sent the emails to keep me busy while doing nothing on their hand. I mean it's been 3 weeks.

We've come to the point where if I open a ticket again asking for help they just straight up ignore it.

I was about to buy a second pair but I think this whole experience made me rethink my position.

I don't even know what to do, the only way I can find to contact them is by opening a ticket/sending an email.

I wanted to use a different AI through my Ray-Bans, so I built Chachan

I use my Ray-Bans regularly. Pretty quickly, I started wondering why I couldn’t use the AI voice agents I already use on my phone through them.

I had been using Grok’s voice mode, and I found the experience much better than talking to Meta AI. I wanted that same experience through my glasses without reaching for my phone every time.

So I built Chachan.

Open Chachan on your iPhone to arm it, then leave the phone locked in your pocket. Tap once on the touchpad on the right temple, ask your question, and hear Grok’s response through the glasses.

That’s the whole idea: use the glasses I already wear with an AI agent I prefer.

I’m looking for Meta Ray-Ban owners to test the iPhone/TestFlight beta. I’d particularly like feedback on:

  • The first version runs on xAI’s real-time voice. I’m deciding which model to connect next - what would you want to use through the glasses?
  • When asking both assistants the same question, where does Chachan feel meaningfully better - or worse - than Meta AI?
  • Does the touchpad interaction work reliably enough to keep your phone in your pocket?
  • Is anything about setup, arming Chachan, or ending a conversation confusing?

For this early beta, usage is capped at 60 minutes per tester. Chachan does not access the glasses’ camera.

iOS only for now. If you’re on Android, drop a comment - I want to see how many of you there are before I decide whether to build it.

Website: https://tapchachan.xyz

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/WW1qzucd

Independent project - not affiliated with Meta, Ray-Ban, or xAI. Honest and critical feedback is welcome.

Nobody told me the Gen 1 Ray-Ban Metas would be this good for action sports

I picked up my Gen 1 Ray-Ban Metas kind of on a whim and they've quietly become the piece of tech I use the most.

What actually surprised me is how good they are for action sports. I've worn them jetskiing and skiing all season, and being able to grab POV clips without stopping, without a GoPro strapped to my head, without ever touching my phone, is a real game changer. You just tap and you're filming exactly what you're looking at.

Sound for music and calls is better than I expected too, even with wind in your face going fast.

Honest gripe so this doesn't read like an ad: sometimes they're a pain to reconnect over Bluetooth and every now and then I have to re-pair them. Mildly annoying, but that's genuinely the only real downside I've hit.

The kicker: because they double as prescription frames, my vision insurance covered most of the cost and I ended up paying around 150. At that price it was a no-brainer for me.

For those who've had them longer or jumped to Gen 2: what do you actually use them for the most day to day? And is the Gen 2 upgrade worth it, or are the Gen 1s still holding up fine for you?
