How to make a Wii game with 0 code (optional tile on home screen) EASIEST METHOD.
I'm doing this post to bring awareness to this because 2 years ago I would not have believed this to be possible. Some of you will be like "oh yeah well obviously" but I think the average person who just wants to surprise their friends with a custom game doesn't.
Let me introduce you to a piece of homebrew software for the Wii called EasyRPG Player. Basically this software lets you play basically any games made with RPG Maker 2000/2003... Due to its age the games don't lag on the Wii any more than they do on the PC, or okay, if you put a lot of animations with transparency etc on it it did lag slightly but nothing that ruins the experience. Also due to its age this game engine is very cheap on Steam.
Do you realize the implications? You can literally just make a game with RPG Maker 2003 on your computer and then open it on your Wii.
Despite being a game engine for RPGs there's nothing forcing you to make an RPG game with it. You can make a story based exploration game or a visual novel with it easily.
If you're familiar with RPG Maker engines then the version from 2003 is not that different from the new ones there's just some missing features and random limitations you have to keep in mind. (Such as having to change the bit-depth and resolution of images). There's no way to make custom code but the engine has workarounds for almost everything you want. Additionally the RPG Maker engines have extensive documentation and you can find a tutorial on YouTube for just about everything, it's not going to get easier than this.
My favorite use is making difficult shitpost and satire games.
Here's some additional information for immersion: You can settle for just opening EasyRPG Player on the homebrew channel and it automatically opening your game, but as with any homebrew software there's nothing stopping you from changing the display name or the icon. Additionally as with any homebrew software there's nothing stopping you from making a forwarder (wad) and making a tile on the home menu. I'd say this is amazing news for Wii enthusiasts who've dreamed of making their own Wii game, I know I was thrilled to have mine completed and running on my CRT.
