Are there any characters you wish had a bigger role in the story?

Hello everybody! Just like the title says, which character would you have liked to know more about?

For me I would've liked to know more about the Mithril soldier that died while rescuing the Whispered girl >!(Mira) !<right in the beggining of the story. In the LN, we are told that he was only tasked with stealing information and he saved her by his own initiative. He seemed like a pretty cool guy and I would've liked to have seen a bit more of him with the other Mithril soldiers.

The other would be Bani Morauta, the Whispered that built the Arbalest and Al. I don't recall him at all from the anime and Tessa only mentions him briefly on Volume 3. Maybe the LNs mention him more (I only have the first collector's book).

Honorable mention for Chidori's doppleganger. You know the one, lol.

What about you, guys? Is there any character you wished had a little more backstory or had gotten more 'screen time'?

LN Volume 3 Discussion

Hello everybody! I just finished reading volume 3! Overall, I enjoyed it alot!

The initial gag where Sousuke blew the festival's whole budget on a military fortress was funny enough. And then he invites Chidori for a trip.

>!Chidori: "It won't be dangerous?"!<

>!Sousuke: "It won't be dangerous."!<

>!Morgan Freeman: It will, in fact, be extremely dangerous.!<

This time, we really can't blame Sousuke because he had actually planned something safe and normal but things just went south almost immediately. They actually had to parachute into the open ocean!

The short fight to take back the island was a bit boring, though. I know Mithril didn't have any other way to properly fight the Venom but it's a bad idea to rely on the Arbalest when they know damn well Sousuke can't consistently use the Lambda Driver yet. I have to assume they at least had Sousuke practise using it but the LN doesn't even mention it. And that's why I think Sousuke beat himself down too much. The misunderstanding between him and Chidori was a bit forced, in my opinion; he wasn't saying that she was a burden, he was saying being a bodyguard was difficult for him. Still, he should have noticed how she reacted and that's why I think Kurz's reaction wasn't entirely unreasonable.

Then, the submarine got hacked. That plan was completely insane. I can see Gauron going along with it since he's completely unhinged, but why did Dunnigan and Nguyen agree? The risk was way too high; if McAllen happened to have 2 or 3 soldiers backing him up, their plan would've failed right there.

Regardless, I like how things turned out. Tessa was a fantastic captain. She kept everyone safe and was pretty brave. But Chidori, omg. On Volume 1 she attacks the evil doctor, on Volume 2 she tries to capture Takuma in the hostage exchange and now she even fought an armed soldier (with Sousuke's help, but still, that's crazy!). She really looks like how I would imagine the wife of a professional soldier; despite having no military training, she has spirit and she's tough as hell. I'm glad in the end Sousuke cleared the misunderstanding. But seriously, they both need to get better at understanding other people. Sousuke's fault is more 'in your face', but Chidori has the same problem too. I'm jusr glad Chidori realises just how little she knows about Sousuke's life - that's a sign that she may start to see him as a bit more than a crush.

But there's something that makes me wonder a little bit. If ressonating with another Whispered causes their personalities to blend a little bit, can it be that Chidori's feelings for Sousuke may (in part) come from Tessa? Or at least make her become aware of those feelings?

The ending was pretty cool too. This time, Gauron is dead for sure >!💀💀💀!<. I also liked how it was Kaname who nudged Sousuke to go confort Tessa.

Also, a little side note, >!Leonard really needs to hire an assistant to take his calls when he's busy. Or maybe that girl was the assistant? Anyway, I hope they used the emergency canteen.!<

Damn, I wrote a lot. Thanks for reading!

EDIT: Damn, I always forget something. The revelation that Sousuke was not so much Chidori's bodyguard but more of a decoy if she ever got attacked was pretty heavy. Him being aware of it is pretty sad. I like to think that's why he has such trouble fitting in the civilian world. How could he not, when he knows his own life is valued less than his colleagues classmates?

LN Volume 2 Discussion

Hello, everybody! I finished reading Volume 2! Personally, I liked it better than the previous one.

The prologue was hilarious. There was a couple (Mikio and Noriko; I don't think they show up again) on the roof. The guy is trying to get some but Sousuke is also there tuning his weapons and doing target practice and he makes enough noise to basically cock block the guy. It goes to show that Sousuke won't notice love right in front of him.

When he crashed the baseball game, I felt a bit bad for him; even if Chidori thinks he blew off their meeting, there was no need to fling the base at his head. And after, when she thinks he was following her (he was going to his own house but they live near each other, lol) she went too far with the things she said, even if she regretted him immediately after. Sousuke isn't the only one who needs to improve his social skills.

I liked Takuma as a villain. It's good for a change to see a group of bad guys where things go wrong on their own. But I didn't quite understood if the meds were special ones to help him use the lambda driver or if he just had a natural talent for it and the meds were to keep his 'normal psycho' problem under control. But it doesn't matter much, I guess.

Tessa was cool too, but there were moments were she was too unprofessional. That girl needs to control herself. I liked the part where she purposefully did a bad job convincing Chidori that she was indeed Mithril's Colonel. It's the second time Sousuke gets blamed without good reason although I can't really blame Chidori because the truth was crazy and Tessa didn't help.

Oh, and Kalinin. Man, that guy is too OP. Strong physical endurance and excelent anti-interrogation techniques. Mithtril sure is lucky to have such a strong and loyal >!💀!< soldier on their side. It's also the second time he knows someone from the bad guy group.

As for Chidori's Whispered Voices, I didn't quite understood. There were 2 voices in her head. The stammering one and the helpful one. Is one of them supposed to be>! Sophia!<? And the other one is her own consciousness?

The battle was fun too. The Behemoth was super strong but only because it used the lambda driver all the time. Just how strong was Takuma?

Well, that's it from me. I'm having a hard time right now, so l'd appreciate if you guys wrote what you think too.

Thanks for reading!

LN Volume 1

Hello everybody!

A few weeks ago, I randomly rebembered Full Metal Panic. I saw the first 3 anime seasons maaany years ago, when the full episodes were on Youtube (good times). Well, I just finished reading the first volume of the LN and enjoyed it enough to want to talk about it!

Out of the 3 seasons, the one I rebember the least is the first one, so most of the plot felt kinda 'fresh'. I think some of the scenes between the school and the submarine were a bit too short. I think I would have trouble following them if I didn't already knew the characters. That said, even though the cast is pretty big, I think every character has a proper spot in the story.

I felt bad for Sousuke when I learned that the misunderstanding that made Chidori angry at him was the only one where he actually had good reasons to think she was in danger. But I was really happy when I learned that she saved Sousuke and Kurz by refusing to abandon them.

And I really liked Gauron and how he's dangerous as hell without ever being visibly angry. I actually blew air through my nose when Sousuke said that >!he really was gone this time. He truly has no idea, lol.!<

On a side note, why do some people not like Chidori? I searched old threads and there was more than one calling her a bitch and annoying. And I do seem to rebember those sorts of comments on the episode's videos too. Does anyone here feel that way as well?

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Which side character would you like to know more about?

Hello everybody! If a Spice and Wolf side character received their own spinoff story, who would you like it to be?

Personally, I would like if there was a story about Landt (Mark's apprentice from Kummersun) and the girl who told Lawrence the pyrite deal didn't go through (I assume she was Diana's daughter). The two could go around town pranking everybody's favourite character, >!Amati !<and we could also learn more about Diana's backstory and her relationship with the Ploanian nobles. Oh, and let's not forget about Batos too!

What do you guys think?
