Fpies to diary- hypoallergenic formula or amino acid formula?

My 10 month old has suspected fpies to dairy. He had a pretty classic reaction to cheese (first direct dairy exposure that occured accidentally) and we are waiting to see the allergist (pediatrician is trying to get an urgent referral but so far our appointment isn’t for a few more months).

He has suspected CMPA and up until this point has been breastfed (I have been dairy free since he was around 1 month). Unfortunately, my supply has significantly dropped and we’ve been supplementing with my freezer stash which is almost gone. His doctor recommend trying nutramigen and gave us a sample. She said that if he has a reaction to it, he will likely need an amino acid formula.

I’m a little nervous to try to formula and have him react since it still has milk in it. For those of you who have had babies with Fpies to dairy, have they been able to tolerate the hydrolyzed hypoallergenic formula or have they needed amino acid formula?

Milk exposure and possible fpies

My almost 10 month old has suspected CMPA since around 2 months (fussy, gassy, significant mucous in stool) so I cut dairy out of my diet (he is breastfeed) and we haven’t given him any diary. Well, last night my 3.5 year old feed him cheese from her cheese burger at dinner while I was in the bathroom. He seemed fine initially and went to bed shortly after. My older kid cried out in the night and we noticed that the baby was laying face down in a pile of vomit. Obviously, I got him up. He was very sleepy and don’t really wake up much but again it was literally the middle of the night. He proceeded to vomit several times (10+) over the next hour ( mostly undigested/partially digested food, stomach acid, bile). I thought he finally finished and put him back in bed and he vomited 3 more times. We cleaned that up and went back to bed. In the morning he nursed and then threw up twice. He has been sleepy but otherwise acting like himself. Didn’t eat much solid food until dinner and definitely nursed less than normal. No more vomiting. We took him to the doctor earlier this morning and they are concerned for fpies and referred us to an allergist. Our appointment isn’t for another couple of months. I’m so nervous my older kid is going to give him something again. Do subsequent reactions tend to worsen? Or are they pretty consistent? I’ve read some scary things about what can happen and I’m starting to feel guilty about not taking him to the hospital even though he’s fine now.
