Audio Upgrade on the R5 E-Tech: Anyone else done it or planning to? Here is my 4.1 stealth project concept! 🎵⚡
Hey everyone! 👋
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my new Renault 5 E-Tech (Iconic trim), but like a few others, I’m slightly regretting not opting for the Harman Kardon sound system at order time. While the stock Arkamys 6-speaker setup is okay with proper EQ tweaks, it definitely lacks deep bass extension, and the factory OpenR Link unit applies noticeable bass roll-off when you turn up the volume.
Since retrofit options from Renault aren't possible, I've been researching a 100% stealth, reversible 4.1 hybrid upgrade designed to protect the factory warranty (using T-Harnesses and non-destructive installation) while getting true Hi-Fi quality.
Here is the setup I’m planning to get installed by a local car audio specialist:
Front & Rear Doors: Focal Inside Plug & Play speakers (IS RNS 165 2-way components up front + IC RNS 165 coaxials in the back).
Door Insulation:
2-layer acoustic treatment on all 4 doors (alu-butyl anti-vibration matting + acoustic foam decoupling behind the speakers and door cards to kill plastic rattles and road noise).
Door Amp:
Compact 4-channel mini-amp (Focal Impulse 4.320, 4x55W RMS) hidden behind the dashboard and connected via a T-Harness.
Signal Restoration:
AudioControl LC2i Pro active line-output converter. Its AccuBASS technology restores the low-end frequencies that the factory OpenR Link head unit attenuates at higher volumes. Comes with a discreet ACR-1 bass remote near the driver's seat.
Subwoofer & Boot Integration:
JBL BassPro Lite active sub. The cool part: it fits right into the top EPP foam organizer underneath the trunk floorboard, keeping the main lower trunk tub 100% free for the Type 2 charging cable!
Has anyone here already upgraded the sound system on their R5 E-Tech (or Megane E-Tech)?
If you did, how was your experience regarding the 12V system integration and dealership/warranty feedback?
What do you think of this setup? Any tips or alternative ideas?
Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any audio projects you’ve been working on for your R5!
Cheers from France! 🇫🇷🚗
