If I don’t do anything except worry about my NHL team and contracts, does the CPU automatically fill up the AHL missing positions? Just curious before I dive into far

Been playing through my first full franchise and I’ve reached the point where a lot of currrent players are starting to phase out and I just have a lot of 75-80 ovr players that are between 19-23..when is best to bring them up and give them NHL minutes? Or do I just sign cheap veterans until they’re developed? I wasn’t sure if bringing them up too soon would stunt overall or potential …thanks!
