Saw this baby in the flesh! Tagore Typewriter

I saw a post few months about this deck on Reddit, and I got to see it in the flesh as the founders were doing some instagram stuff. They certainly had a crowd around them, and even though this is a prototype, up close I liked it more than I thought I would; I really liked the alice layout and the retro looking keyboard along with the screen that retracted into the typewriter like paper. The keys felt great, substantial with the right amount of spring and they're working on a screen that's like e-ink but has a normal refresh rate which has been my main issue with things like Freewrite.

The software on it is also really good and I was actually quite impressed they put some thought into it, with templates for novels and screenplays as well as the ability to do research on the device itself without needing a separate iPad or phone.

I've put a reservation down so I can see the live demos they do on zoom.

But the main thing I wanted to say is that it's real, I saw it, and it was better in the hand than the marketing makes it look. Happy to answer what I can, and to be honest we need more mainstream stuff like this out there as I can't make a polished deck like some on the sub can.

Chessnut Move - those that have it, would you recommend buying it?

I received a board that is a dud, my pieces are twitching like they’re haunted, and the company haphazardly responds to emails - and when they do they offer bizarre solutions (like take the board apart, find a windows laptop and reinstall the firmware yourself)… whilst continuing to ship other orders.

For future buyers I’d like to set up a poll - and for fairness I’d like everyone to chip in, whether it’s been a great experience or not. would you recommend the Chessnut Move?

Chessnut Move board not connecting - from the May 2026 batch of deliveries.

i’m part of the recent batch to have just received their Chessnut Moves in the last couple of weeks, and it looks like a high number of them are faulty with the following (attached photo) when i try to connect the board.

i have tried charging everything till they are green (with a 20W+ charger), but as soon as i disconnect the board from a power source the power light red and the board doesn’t connect to anything.

Has anyone found any solutions or will i have to ask Chessnut for a new board (and possibly wait another few months)? Luckily i bought through Amex so can get them to refund me and have them chase chessnut.
