Need some help with Owl (Father).
First playthrough, Vitality 18 and Attack Power 9.
I’ve done around 15-20 attempts so far. I’ve only reached Phase 2 like twice and by then I had almost no healing left. My main issue seems to be taking too much damage throughout Phase 1 and running out of resources before Phase 2.
My current strategy is to play aggressively, focus on deflects, and use Mortal Draw whenever I get a safe opening. I don’t spam it, only use it as a punish.
For those who beat him:
What made the fight click for you?
Which attacks are safest to punish?
Is relying on Mortal Draw a good approach here?
Any common mistakes first-time players make?
Looking for practical tips and things I might be overlooking. Thanks!

EDIT: I finally beat him.

For anyone wondering what I used:
No prosthetics
No Spirit Emblems
Used Ako’s Sugar once in Phase 2
Used Mortal Draw for pretty much every safe opening I got
A few things that worked for me:
When he does the elbow into ash/firecracker combo, immediately dodge past him and Mortal Draw from behind.
If he randomly throws ash/flames without that setup, I usually just backed off. Don’t force a dodge because he can instantly follow up with a thrust or sword combo.
When he jumps high for the overhead slam, don’t dodge too early. Wait until he’s about to land, then dodge and Mortal Draw. If you dodge early he’ll change his position.
When he does the perilous sweep, and red symbol appears jump and punish if you get a good opening.
he does Ichimonji mostly after the perilous sweep where the red symbol pops up that’s another safe Mortal Draw opportunity.
If you miss a punish window, just back off. Don’t get greedy because he can instantly go into firecrackers.
Once I learned his moves, I didn’t need to spam attacks. Spamming usually got me hit more. Learning the moveset and punishing properly worked much better for me.
At first I thought this boss was impossible. Later I was getting into Phase 2 with almost all my gourds left. Once you understand his moves, Phase 1 honestly becomes a joke. Phase 2 has his routine similar moves but with a red owl coming near u, u can simply jump and then mikiri!
Trust me, I was completely frustrated and convinced I wasn’t beating him. If you’re reading this because you’re stuck like I was, don’t lose hope. If I managed to beat him, you can too.
