Does affective empathy require phenomenal consciousness?
Affective empathy is usually described as emotionally resonating with another person. Could that emotional response influence physiology and behavior without phenomenal consciousness?
Or does calling it affective empathy necessarily imply a felt subjective experience? I’m particularly interested in whether this is merely a question of definition or a substantive question about the relationship between affect and consciousness.
