reddit.comAaron Boone said that Gerrit Cole's next rehab start will be on Saturday in Scranton, giving him one extra day of rest after starting on Sunday and he’s expected to throw around 80 pitches.
This was said on the Talkin’ Yanks show which they always do on Tuesday’s.
Caballero is playing really well right now and he in no position to lose the shortstop job right now. Leads all shortstops in DRS and has been an absolute spark plug.
- Have him on the roster (he would take Schuemann’s spot on the roster) would likely be backup shortstop right now with the way Caballero is playing.
- Send him down to AAA (would give the team an extra year of control if that happens for 20 days) and gives him more time to recover from surgery also would make him earn a spot.

Boone also said Caballero "complicates" things a bit.
"José has earned opportunities and been a key part of our club and a part of our success here to start out the season, so that's part of it.
"One of the good things that's happened for us as a team through spring training and now in the early parts of the season, is we have a lot of really good players and depth and good players competing for important roles and spots on the club. José is part of that. Anthony, we expect, to be part of that as well.”
Boone on Volpe:
"He feels ready to go, and he's let us know that he feels ready to go whenever we grab him. I've spoken with him. Cash has spoken with him. We've had those conversations. But he absolutely feels like he's ready to go and contribute here." (More ...)
"But we'll ultimately make that decision when we think it's best for not only him, but for the club."
