My 2.5 month old has had fairly consistent sleep patterns for the last month: wakes around 7am/8am, is awake for about an hour and then has a very long (~3hr) morning nap (sometimes in the crib but most often contact nap), then in the afternoon naps are more difficult; he will seem tired but will need to be bounced to sleep and only nap for 30min (either in crib or contact naps. Very occasionally will he have a 2-3hr nap in the afternoon or evening). Then he is usually wide awake from 8pm to 11pm (maybe the odd 10 min nap in your arms) and then he will fall asleep at 11:30pm and sleep through until 7am/8am. When he naps in his crib the naps are usually shorter, around 40 min - sometimes he just wakes up or sometime I extend the nap by holding him if he still seems like he would still sleep. He has done 3hr naps in the crib occasionally though.

We try to follow his cues and keep an eye on the time to make sure he has the opportunity to nap after about 1hr15min being awake.

Now that he is getting closer to 3 months I’m wondering what our next steps should be. Do I wake him up from his long morning naps? Maybe that will help make his bedtime earlier? Should he be napping in his crib instead of contact naps even if that means his naps are shorter?

Overall his schedule is working for us but it would be nice to have an earlier bedtime and more consistent nap schedule so we can plan our days accounting for his naps a bit better. And more consistent independent sleep, while also making sure he gets enough sleep.
