12 month old waking at 5:30am
Hiya! My son recently turned 1 almost a month ago, and is officially weaned from breastfeeding as of 10 days ago. Before he weaned, he would wake up around 3-4am for a feed, and then sleep until 6:30-7:00am. Since weaning he is sleeping through the night (praise), but is now waking between 5:30-6:00am for the day. I can deal with 6:00, but 5:30 feels too early for a 12-13 month old. I try to wait to start the day (lights on, interaction, milk) until at least 6:00, but he usually wakes crying, so I don’t know what I should be doing between 5:30-6 if he’s upset. Wondering if anyone has any tips that might help, or if I just have to ride it out. Helpful info:
- Current wake windows are 3.5/3.75/4
- First nap would normally range from 1.5-2 hours, but I’ve recently been capping it at 1.5 to attempt to help the situation.
- Second nap is usually about 30 minutes - 1 hour. I try to make sure he’s done napping by 4:00pm
- Bedtime is at 8:00pm
- He is sleep trained. Goes down for naps and bed easily 99% of the time.
- He is getting close to a 1-nap transition, but I don’t know if we’re there yet. He’ll accidentally have a 1-nap day every once and a while, and tolerates the wake windows pretty well, but other days he is ready for a morning nap (especially if he wakes at 5:30)
- A couple nights ago he woke earlier (at about 5:15) and after crying/fussing for a little bit he put himself back to sleep and slept until 6:45 which felt like a win, but we were back to 5:30 the next day.
I appreciate any help!
