What is something that makes you feel like a kid again?
reddit.comI just found my old Shopkin collection, and I was wondering whether it's possible to digest one of these?
Just thought of whether there's any equivalent to "girl-math"
Or maybe something you wish was more commonly addressed or understood across genders
ELI5: Why do some pills say “do not crush or chew,” yet the same drug exists in a chewable form?
Is it to prevent choking on dry drugs?
So, I noticed the other day that my local sauna is set to 90℃ (194℉), and I usually sit there for 10-15 mins per session without any problems. Just causes me to sweat a lot.
But I realised that 90℃, that's like SO hot, like only 10℃ from the boiling temperature of water. If I were to touch a metal cube or water at 90℃, my skin would melt instantly.
So why is the hot air perfectly fine to breathe and be surrounded by? What’s different about air vs. solids at the same temperature?
Is it because the air is less dense, so fewer hot/excited atoms are hitting my skin per surface area?
Okay, I might sound crazy or insanely paranoid when saying this, but I really think there should be stricter laws for public filming or something. I'm explicitly talking about how accessible taking a photo has become, literally a tap away on the phone, and a stranger can have a piece of your privacy documented in their photo gallery forever.
I'm not afraid of being watched in public; that cannot be avoided, and everyone has a right to look where they'd like. It's a whole different scenario when they actively decide to take a picture or film me. I came to write this because I came across a video online where someone had filmed strangers' appearance and outfit in order to predict what their lifestyle was like, and while most of their comments weren't insulting, it still made me extremely uncomfortable. Media is getting more extreme to raise the clicks and profits, braindead consumers (yes, sometimes myself included) only seek higher doses of dopamine, through consumption of increasingly morbid content served on the verge of the law and human dignity. I realised that any moment that I step out, I am at risk of being TARGETED and filmed for entertainment, humiliation, or even just obsession, all without my consent or even knowledge. Sure, there's no problem if I happen to be in the background of a tourist's selfie, or if I happen to pass by a vlogger doing their own thing, I'm fine with that, but it's scary that people can film me as their subject anytime, anywhere.
I'm worried about what they can do about that picture. Whether the purpose of consumption is jerking off, admiring, profiting, or insulting, they own a PERMANENT possession of a part of me, and I'd be powerless to even guess or control their free will to manipulate as they'd like.
Especially now, when AI is in a stage where there are questionable extents of moderation available. WHY do I feel like the only person in the world worried about my picture being thrown into an AI image-generator along with a sickening prompt to spit out a pornographic deepfake? Fucking Grok, Meta glasses, and Elon fucking Musk that can't do shit to care about the consequences of the generative power. Add the government to the list of responsible agents that do not hold anyone responsible for the conflict it's creating.
Excuse my language, sincerely, but the more I think about this, the more frustrated and worried I become. I know the current world has hella lot to worry about already, but I really wish more people would acknowledge the permanent and manipulative nature of photography privilege. I'm also worried about far beyond 'just the photo' itself, it's also about the civil liberty to consent that is being trashed away, and is then dared to be labelled as 'trendy' in our generation to document our perfect aesthetic lifestyles.
Am I just late on adapting to this new normal...? I feel like one of those crash-out Karens for bringing this up when it has been around for so long. But is this really the end, after so far we've come?
