Okay so me F(31) and my gf F(26) have been together for almost 4 years. July 4th is our anniversary. Recently I’ve been thinking of taking the leap and buying her a ring. Nothing crazy just to show her that Im all in for her for whenever she is ready. However a few weeks back, she randomly asked me if I was sure I wanted to marry her. We’ve talked about it before but just as something you talk about or ask your partner, nothing serious. Recently I took an interest in trying to see what kind of rings she’d prefer so that I don’t buy her a ring she doesn’t like/wear. I guess that’s what prompted that question so I laughed and answered “Ofcourse”. She laughed and shrugged it off. Now fast forward to about 2 days ago, she says “can I ask you something?” to which I responded yes. She looked at me and asked if a year ago I was in love with her. I didn’t understand why she asked but I told her yes I was and I think I’m ready to take it to the next step. She didn’t respond so I asked her the same question back and she answered “I was madly in love with you” I said “okay so how about now?” and she hesitated. So we both paused and I asked why she hesitated so atp she was tearing up and I know sometimes she has a hard time expressing what she’s feeling so I told her take a breath and let me know what she’s feeling cause if she doesn’t she’d only be lying to herself so she hesitated and said she wasn’t sure if she was still in love with me. So I told her I understand and what that meant for us as we both live together in a 1 bedroom house. She said she needed time to think cause she still wanted to travel with me and buy furniture together. I told her friends can also do that and none of those were reasons on why she’s wanted to be with me. So she needs to take the day to think about what she wanted to do since I’m 31 and she’s 26 it’s not as easy for me to start all over. The next day she was off and when we spoke she said it’s not fair to me if she was to hold back so she thinks it’s best to take a break. All of this came after months of her calling me her wife to all her friends and mine included. She said she was confused and thinks it’s just best for now. Idk why to make of all of this cause she seemed to be more in it than me at one point. Idk currently just roommates I’ve cut of all the kisses and showering together . I’m treating this as a break up cause in my head that’s what this is.
