Firstly, thanks to all for coming along with us for our initiation into the world of sorcery.

In parte the first I had listed the spell book, for our water deck and there were many fine suggestions to add, well many may be stretching it, a couple more like. One card that was suggested was Lord of Lies. Wasn't familiar with it cause I don't have it but I looked it up and here are some of my thoughts on it and maybe a few other cards as well. Let us opine!

I look at this card and I see the bitter taste of disappointment. I believe it was our second game played after we got our first cards (the gothic precons) I had a lot of misconceptions about how this game was gonna play out, when i got hit with our first mudslide. My board was wiped... everything I had worked for into the bitter void like so much dog feces. I screamed. I lit the coffee table on fire and then danced in the flames while I cursed the makers of this accused game! Then I calmed back down a little and I looked at David and I said, "So I guess don't group your guys on one square?"

"Yeah I guess not huh." he said.

After that we were pretty shy about ever putting 2 of our minions on the same square. Any hesitation in understanding this basic principle of its gameplay will be further allayed when you see how much "3 damage to every minion at site" type cards there are. So where does that lead us when it comes to the lord of lies? My prediction is that you will get it off around turn 8 best case, only to find it wasted your whole turn, didn't get to use its gimmick because the opponent wasn't disregarding the basics, and then got buried, drowned or some other much cheaper solution on the opponents next turn. It doesn't have submerge, burrowing or even airborne which means its vulnerable to any kind of removal the game has to offer. Then you feel saddened. Intense malaise! Next thing you know, you're the one up dancing on a flaming coffee table.

Maybe and I'm theorizing here, because my son and I both love the draw packages, it makes our games go a lot quicker than other people are used to. My point is that when I look at some of these decks that people suggest, they look like just a pile of overcosted cards with gotcha effects, and I'm thinking the cards are cool in a vacuum but you'll be at deaths door and on the run by turn 6 because you have no defense. Frankly some of the decks I look at and think unless you draw the exact cards you need at the perfect moments, I think you're looking at disappointment. How do you deal with the all charge fire deck we have? Hotwheel will kill you on turn 6 or 7 after the chargers put you on deaths door. What good is a minion that costs more than the mana you had when you died?

In summation, as a card with a cool ability its ok and it might force the opponent to play around it in some small way but at the end of the day its just a 6 power minion and I can think of cheaper.

Ill make a decklist for the fire deck like i did with the water one and you can see what I mean.

One last note... Grievous Insult has a lot of implications that have come up in our games that might not be apparent like, if you insult a submerged, burrowed or voidwalk minion while in those regions they die.

If a man sayeth unto me, "What element should I choose?", I say verily unto him in kind, "Water"..

Okay we've played about 30 or so games now so you can take all my opinions knowing that is my experience level. This is my deck. Hopefully more experienced players will be able to help refine it and if you are just starting out maybe this will give you some ideas.

Mare Tenebrarum [sic.]

4x Tufted Turtles (sticky)

3x Sugarplum Fairies (Allows attack and defend on vital minions)

4x Deep Sea Mermaids (cycle, also prime swap targets)

3x Lugbog Cat (Under costed 4 power demolisher)

3x Estranged Loner (sticky, a vehicle for horrible hybrids)

3x Coy Nixie (Just Insane)

3x Failed Mutation (a 4 power minion that cant be spelled down.. fear him)

4x Drowned (slow but under costed and meaty)

3x Harkening Kraken (can be easily discounted by pulling enemies)

1x Shoggoth (late game threat)

1x Dormant Monstrosity (late game threat)

1x Lacuna Entity (awesome tempo swing potential)

1x Giant shark (in combination with coy nixie and riptide... oppressive.)

4x Drown (hard removal is always nice)

2x Overflow (takes the bite out of turns where you need to draw a site)

2x Ice Lance (closer)

2x Snowball (closer)

1x Into the Abyss (more hard removal)

3x Gift of the Frog (cycle, augments swap also)

3x Swap (multipurpose movement tool)

3x Riptide (dual purpose cycle and movement)

3x Grievous Insult (more dual purpose cycle)

3x Toolbox (wildcard)

Collection

1x Overflow

1x Riptide

1x Grievous Insult

2x Shoggoth

4x Horrible Hybrids

1x Ice Lance

So what does it want to do? Outdraw the opponent and overwhelm them with annoying and oppressive creature abilities like coy nixie and giant shark. Its really hard to get in the water with this deck which makes it hard to attack sites. creatures like tufted turtles can be hard to deal with early, and if they are forced to use resources to remove it then you end up out valuing them on the exchange many times because they (tufted turtles) are likely to 2 for 1. Deep sea mermaids may seem weak but in conjunction with the sites that let you scrye it can be a nice way to get cards that otherwise would have been lost to the depths of your spellbook i.e. the bottom.

With all the card draw in the deck, I go with the sorcerer as my avatar. In the mid game and after, the sorcerer will outdraw you every turn, and this gets bad for the opponent if they start running out of gas because you know that cant happen to you. The massive card advantage is the real key here because its a control deck at heart, and drawing a ton of cards is the surest way to always have the answer you need when you need it.

The Toolboxes are wildcards in this deck, when you get one you have the choice of all your main tech cards out of your collection. Versatility. Simple, effective and leaves behind nothing but the refreshing smell of High Karate after shave.

I hope somebody gets something out of this. I would love if more people would post their decks so we can learn together. Thanks.

My son and I have had a lot of fun with this game over the last week. The precons didn't really do it for me but when we built our own decks we started to have some real fun.

Having said that, there are a few egregious cards that I think kind of stuck the fun out of it when they land like thunderstorm but overall pretty fun game.

Because he liked it so much it looks like we're going to be playing a good bit of it. To that point it looks like I'll have to finish the mat that I started.

I have included a Pic of the ongoing progress. Including a familiar from beyond time and space that was actually conjured by chance as i inked the last runes in the sigil of protection. Slowly but surely.
