Allergist
About 5 weeks ago I had unexpected reaction to peanut powder. My face, tongue mouth started to tingle and became numb; I had to put an effort to swallow and I had a feeling my tongue got a bit swollen. My HR increased and I felt very weak. I took some loratadine I had at home and after about 40 mins I felt better.
I set an appointment with allergist in my area. Between peanut incident and the appointment I had weird, similar reactions to different products: pure cocoa powder, avocado, tree nuts, apples. The range of reactions were from tingling mouth, tongue, face, feeling of sizzling in the mouth, scratchy soar throat, problems either swallowing, sudden feeling of weakness.
I experienced also some uncomfortable symptoms while being outside ( itchy skin, soar throat, runny nose , itchy skin).
I have never been allergic to anything in my 44 years long life.
At my appointment the allergist said that I can’t have any true peanut allergy because you don’t suddenly develope one . He suggested I might have Oral Allergy Syndrome which sounded valid. He ordered blood tests.
To my surprise I am not allergic to anything. I expected environmental triggers. Nothing. My total IgE is 4 kU/L.
I still experience these reactions plus some of the foods started making me nauseous.
Was anyone in similar situation?
I have a follow up with allergist next week and I don’t know what questions should I ask him.
Can I have OAS without pollen allergy? Should I stop eating all these triggering foods?
I have to say I won’t touch anything peanuts, nuts and cocoa powder as the reactions to them were the most scary to me.
