Hi all,
This is our lovely and hard working dog ❤️
Unfortunately, she has been in the veterinary clinic for a week after being admitted last week with bloody urine and an anemia. The past week has been an indescribably terrible time and it is still not clear whether she would make it.
After very extensive diagnostics, the current diagnosis is: immune-mediated hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) and thrombocytopenia (destruction of platelets), with suspected Evans syndrome. Following a blood transfusion on Friday due to a very low hematocrit, she seemed to stabilize somewhat over the past few days. However, today we unfortunately received the news that after reducing the cortisone two days ago, her hematocrit has dropped drastically again. So overall, the situation looks critical and she is receiving another blood transfusion today.
Our question: does anyone have experience with this condition or can share their insights?
We would very much appreciate opinions and advices regarding treatment options and prognosis.
We found a recommendations from the ACVIM (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/jvim.15463) which we want to confront the vet with tomorrow.
The whole family is deeply worried about her condition. Any advice is appreciated and thank you in advance.
(We could provide blood test results and information if needed. infections, tumors, etc. have already been ruled out.)
