Hey there. I recently purchased a 2012 F150 with the factory trailer brake controller already installed. When I test the 7 pin plug at the rear of the truck I don’t have a trailer brake signal when stepping on the brakes but I do get a signal when I use the manual override. Does the vehicle need to have the trailer plugged in order to get a trailer brake signal?

I’m picking up my new camper this weekend so I don’t have any trailer to plug it into at the moment.
