Can I return to weightlifting after microfracture surgery for a talar cartilage injury?
Hey everyone,
Last year I fell from a height and sprained my left ankle, resulting in an avulsion fracture. Six months later, it still hasn't healed. Last month's MRI revealed an osteochondral lesion of the talus, and my doctor is recommending microfracture surgery. From what I've read, the fibrocartilage that grows back is far less durable than the original hyaline cartilage and wears out much faster. I am a weightlifting enthusiast, and I'm terrified I won't be able to return to the sport. Has anyone here had this surgery and managed to get back to powerlifting? Any experience would be hugely appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, and thank you for any replies.
