Edexcel a level physics paper 3 marking

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well.

I recently requested my scripts back and found paper 3 marking to be very suspicious especially for the last 6 marker as seen below(in text as well as screenshot due to illegible handwriting).

Handwriting is horrendous because I was very ill on the day so timing was a huge issue so I had to rush this question.

This is not only me but many of my friends and others online have also achieved 0/6, it seems like something is wrong could someone please let me know what they think.

Question:

The student placed the ball bearing onto the surface of the honey and released it. She used a stopwatch to determine the time t for the ball bearing to fall between the two rubber bands. She repeated this measurement and calculated a mean time.

The student calculated the velocity v of the ball bearing using v = x/t

Explain how the student could modify her procedure to obtain an accurate value for the terminal velocity. (6)

Answer (as written, including crossed-out text struck through):

Use a mobile phone camera to record the footage of ball bearing falling into honey. Play it back take measurements such as time taken for ball bearing to to pass from one top rubber band to bottom rubber band. This will make make it easier for to distinguish determine when ball bearing passes each rubber band. Use a tong or a other appropriate instrument to drop ball bearing from from top of the measuring cylinder, this ensures that ball bearing reaches terminal velocity by the time it reaches top rubber band. This reduces systematic effect of systematic error and increases accuracy. She could use light gates look at measuring ruler at eye level, and cylinder into prevent parallax errors. Use a set square set square to ensure measuring cylinder cylinder is vertical vertical

Edexcel A Level Physics grade boundaries

How's everyone feeling about the physics papers this year?

I made quite a few silly mistakes in paper 1 and some in paper 2 and paper 3 there were timing issues.

I reckon i got

Paper 1: 64/90

Paper 2: 74/90

Paper 3: 94/120

Do you guys think this is enough for A*?

What do you guys think the overall difficulty was across the papers

In my opinion we got some of the worst topic spreads as we didn't get easy topics such as further mechanics, space and g fields and got the hard topics like lenses. Our paper 1 also had unusual amount of trick questions but it wasnt too bad. Paper 2 was unusually easy and paper 3 was just decent.

Stuck on whether to pursue an AI degree or Maths and stats degree at university for breaking into actuarial roles

Hello everyone,

I've recently completed my A Levels in Maths, Physics and Computer Science and I have an offer at King's College London for Computer Science soon to change to Artificial Intelligence.

I'm interested in becoming an actuary because from what I've researched so far:

- It is mathsy, mainly that there is a lot of statistics

- There are up to 13 exams to be taken in order to become a fellow and become qualified as an actuary

- There is a high volume work from home as opposed to coming into the office

I'm going to be taking a gap year to take a break from traditional school life and some personal reasons but I will also do Further Maths during the gap year.

I've heard actuarial firms are very interested in Maths and stats graduates as opposed to others such from fields such as engineering or Tech.

Also AI at King's has a module in year 1 which is Mathematics and Statistics for Artificial Intelligence and the mathematics basically ends there for the 4 year course. The other modules are robotics, programming, logic etc. In 2nd year there are some modules which may be mathsy such as data science and machine learning. But I'm worried that this course won't be enough to support me when I enter the actuary field and also it may make it difficult for me to enter the field itself.

King's has another course which is Mathematics and Statistics and i feel that it would be a lot more beneficial to me if I did this course since im more of a mathsy person than a tech person and also it will help me a lot more when I enter the actuarial field.

Hence I'm thinking of reapplying in order to get into that course but it is quite risky since I may not get in due to rejecting their AI offer this year.

Here are the links to both degrees:

AI

Maths and Statistics

My Main questions are:

  1. How much does undergrad subject actually matter for breaking into actuarial roles?

  2. Whether it's still possible to be competitive for actuarial roles with an AI degree.

  3. How much does undergrad subject help during the job?

I apologize for the long winded post but help would be much appreciated

A Level Edexcel Physics UK Grade boundaries

I flopped paper 1 but the paper itself wasnt too bad I think, it was defo harder than 2024 maybe around same level as or slightly easier than 2025 imo so imo gb might up a couple marks, or maybe same as last year

Paper 2 and 3 were quite good so I think they will stay the same or go up slightly

I think gb for A* will be:

Paper 1- 69/90

Paper 2- 70/90

Paper 3 - 93/120

Total: 232/300

What do you guys think?
