River Tiles project

Hi folks. I have long admired and wanted a set of modular river tiles for Pillage, DnD and other games. A few days ago I decided to make some.

I started with mdf cut into the pieces in wanted. 6 inches wide with a 4 inch river down the middle with a host of fords, rapids, fallen trees and other specialty tiles for crossing. I left some spaces for small bridges and I am currently working on a large stone bridge tile as an objective and maybe a covered bridge as well.

I used foamcore for the banks, XPs for the rocks and modpodged it all before sprinkling sand and gravel on. Next it was spray paint time. All matte black then brown brushed followed by honey brown and camel coloured craft paint. I hit the rocks with a dark gray then pale gray and sponged the shore with 3 shades of green to match my neoprene mat. For the water I used dark green and then navy at the edges to make murky deep water. This is what the river at home look like, actually even darker.

Next was the water. I am new to resin and things like that so I opted for glossy modpodge blown around with a straw for waves. I think it worked well. A few tufts on each tile and I am going to glue on moss on the rocks and my modular river is ready to go.

Dark house under construction Update

I finished the house save for little paint touchups. Made with foamcore, wood dowels, towel for thatching and toothpicks and floral wire for the woven wall. Pretty happy with it as an addition to my dark age village and church.

Dark age farmhouse under construction

I built a village and decided to build a house under construction. It’s not really that accurate for the process but I wanted to play a bit so here it is. I am happy with the wattle for the wall panels to cover with daub but I am going to leave it as is. Pics show what I have to paint it to match as well.

Dark age village WIP

Foamcore, stir sticks, toothpicks and towel thatching. Everything from the dollar store. Suitable for my dnd games, pillage and any other medieval games. Lots of fun to make. Very happy with the thatching paint. Today I started a house under construction or repair so it’s in there too in the last pic.

Granary for Pillage test of colours and towel thatching

Made with peeled foam-core, toothpicks and stir sticks.

Roof is strips of dollar store towel. Hot glued down in rows and then modpodged all over and black spray painted. Dry brushed browns and yellow ochre on the thatching.

There is also a shot of my whole village for Pillage, waiting for modpodge and paint.

28mm Church for Pillage, DnD etc

Finally calling this done. I got the roof shingled and painted today and added moss to the stonework. Materials: foamcore (peeled) cereal box cardboard and watercolour paper.

I am pretty happy with it and now need to get to work on modpodging my village buildings.

Church for Pillage, DnD, Bolt Action etc. WIP

Finally got it modpodged and started drybrushing grays on it. Put in some of my interior decoration so I could get a sense of what it would look like.

Church WIP update

So I finished the sand and pva stucco layer and laid out the interior of the church artwork and modpodged the whole thing with a modpodge and black paint mix.

Church design for the Pillage wargame

Foamcore, xps and coffee stir sticks. Going to modpodge and black paint the whole thing once I put glue+sand on the exterior for stucco. Interior floor and artworks done on watercolour paper. I am still not sure if I am going to keep them. Depends how the paint job comes together I guess.
