My Army Builder App for Pillage
This is a small app I made to help create rosters for Pillage.
There are other (great!) online army builders but this allows a faction-specific spreadsheet to be updated with my actual mini collection and associated Talents so that only these are selectable.
The app is run locally and not online. I tried to make it as 'simplistic and minimalistic as possible' which is useful as that also describes my coding knowledge!
The eagle-eyed might note an error with the Archers cost! I've since updated this to correct the typo in the spreadsheet :-)
This was a fun little personal project that I just wanted to show my fellow Pillagers :-)
Dog trainer talent query
Hello all,
For the dog trainer talent, the wording has confused me a little bit.
For the 10GP talent on a Chieftain, does this mean that all of my hound masters have 4 dogs each now?
Or do I have to pay 10GP for each of my hound masters to have the extra dog? If so, do I have to apply the talent again to the chieftan (or second cheiftan) or just pay the extra GP within the same talent slot?
Thanks
Warband WYSIWYG and tournaments?
Hello,
Ive recently built up a decent number of models using the victrix miniatures warbands in preparation for some regular casual games with friends.
I have two questions really:
1 - are there any tournaments or games days in the UK for pillage wargame, or an easier way to search for them
2 - in terms of WYSIWYG, my models have the correct weapons and armour levels, but I have used parts from a variety of kits including medieval foot knights and sergents, saxons, late roman, Norman, Irish etc, so aesthetically they are a mix.
Would there be a problem to use these in different factions? For example, using my unarmoured spearmen as Irish, Picts, and Scots, but then for a different warband count as unarmoured spearmen for Saxons?
My thinking is that historically there was never too much uniformity for armour and weapons between contemporary groups, and i could always imagine that pillaging groups could use weapons and armour that they raid from defending forces and vice versa?
I will hopefully be uploading my progression as I paint my guys up
Thanks everyone
Also just wanted to say
I primarily play 40k (competitively, but also for the lore, creativity for kitbashing my own headcannon warbands, and fun) so its nice to be part of a smaller community who seem so welcoming (ive gladly seen that meta chasers are not common here)
Turn/Score Tracker
I made a turn/score tracker for when my Vikings are pillaging!
The base was made out of scraps of XPS foam, pinned and glued to form the base. Filler was applied to smooth it out and then sand and flock applied.
I got the figure off Temu and did a quick wooden paint job. The counters are also from Temu. I added end caps to cover the skull design and applied runes which were paper cut outs, fixed and coated in mod podge.
Total cost was around 5 quid and a fun little project that took next to no time at all.
Next gang: Magyars or Celts?
Hey hey pillagers, I'm finishing my main warband of Byzantines/Late Romans and I'm wondering what to do next.
I'm fascinated by two options: a only-cavarly nomad (Magyars/Hun) and a Celtic (Scots/Irish/Welsh) warband.
Playing: What are your feelings about them? At first sight, I kind have the doubt that the first is fun but too fragile as you're gonna have not so many bodies, while the second kinda lacks options apart fielding a mass of spear-wielding hobos.
Minis: I'm squashing a bunch of factions together as I'm lacking money and space to have many different armies so I was wondering how accessible are the two single ones.
I've already victrix light horse archers for my saga Persians and I was thinking to buy some heavy cav that could work as Bök and as nomadic/Persian cataphracts. Otherwise, I was wondering if there are sets that could work as infantry for all the different Celtic factions.
Cheers
Arthurians for Pillage. Both Victrix and Wargames Atlantic models here
I think painting historical models between big batches of GW or other heroic scale minis helps keep me sane. Really love these guys.
What faction from the rulebook do y'all assign the Arthurian British/late roman warband set?
Do you just use the generic or do you pick a certain one of the factions that you think fit it the best?
Bloody Vikings!
Hi all!
Played my first game of Pillage a few weeks back and was instantly hooked! I purchased the Victrix Viking warband and have just finished painting them all.
I’m brand new to wargaming and painting miniatures so fairly pleased with how they turned out.
I’ll take some photos of my Vikings at our next game on Monday (Scenario 4 - Landing, Vikings vs Irish), but here’s one of my favourite minis for now…
Isn't Foederati rule for Romans a little bit weak ?
I am new to this wargame. I bought some models for romans and for vikings, mosty for collection, and now I am finishing painting them.
I'm planning to try out pillage with my friend and developing a list for Roman 500p warband.
At first Foederati rule sounded quite cool, I like that I can add some flavor units to my warband. But now I am not sure about how practical it is, it seems 60 points is quite costly, just so that I could spent event more point on units from other factions(berserkers for example).
Does anybody have any experience playing romans with this rule, at what game cost is it effectiver, or at least is not a waste, for you ?
Is horde viable?
A dude with armor, shield, and hand weapon costs 30 points. The same amount can be used to buy 3 basic dudes (unarmored, improvised weapon). Has anyone had success with just swarming the opponent with a meat wall of cheap dudes to block certain paths or just tie up the opponent's more expensive models?
I know this ruleset is mostly for narrative play, but I'm always interested in goofy gimmicks that exploit the mechanics. What other cheese or silly things have you tried?

Byzantines/Last Romans tactics and tips?
Hello to everyone.
After some demos with friends' Vikings and Anglo-Saxons, I'm starting a Byzantine/Last Romans warband.
I was thinking of a core of FA soldiers (50-50 hand weapons and spears) supported by pikes, with three archers and a pair of cataphracts for the Byzzies, supported by a berserker and a pair of huscarls.
While I've not yet a list for the LR, maybe try to exploit the hasta bonus as much as possible.
What are your experiences or strategic thoughts on these factions?
