[SPOILERS TBI] First time reader starting.
Hello, I am starting The First Law series by Joe Abercrombie with The Blade itself. After hearing and learning some excerpts of the series, yes I had to dip my head into the salt water of (fucking) spoilers unfortunately, I took a "it's better to do it than live with the fear of it" moment by ordering a decent copy of book one.
I finished reading two chapters so far:
The prologue chapter of "The End", starting with Logen Ninefingers struggling with moving through the forests and killing a Shanka, a "flathead" among others the beasts are called. It would take more than a few Shanka, man or beast, to kill Ninefingers, it seems. And the ending of the chapter make it seem like it is ending as our Northman plunged into the darkness of the cold, freezing river. That Shanka really gave a bite but met the rock and back to the mud it went.
And the first chapter of "The Survivors", "I am still alive", as Logen said laying down after the plunge of what seemed to be over but no. Our guy making his way to the camp where his guys have already left with three Shanka dead as good, and Logen thought of risking of finding them but no. You have to be realistic. You have to be. So off Ninefingers went with what is all good, all useful, especially that cooking pot, for the mountains as the route to take, and he reckons of not lasting without proper tools nor clothes as he got his coat and what he could pack to survive the bitter cold.
You have to be realistic, once I'm going to the mud with the first entry, there ain't going back from here.
So for now, I could only find and afford The Blade Itself, cuz of how limited my country gets and how hot it is that I should read by early mornings. Into the grimdark fantasy world by Lord Grimdark Joe creates and still working.
