So I've been a Roy player for most of my time playing this game and I've recently been picking up Chrom to see the differences between them. Obviously the general consensus is that Chrom is worse because his up special is incredibly exploitable and can reliably be ledge-trapped repeatedly until Chrom is forced into the blast zone, leaving his only "safe" recovery options his double jump and air dodge combined with his fast air speed, which largely negates his strong onstage presence akin to Mac.
What I've been wondering lately is if Chrom was given a carbon copy of Roy's up special, how would that place him relative to Roy competitively speaking, given that the only real difference between them now would be Chrom's uniform hitbox sword as opposed to Roy's sweet and sourspots? Would Chrom be considered better due to more consistent combos and the ability to better fight at range or is the loss of the sweetspot and raw killpower too much of a negative?
Side note, I'd be interested to hear what you all think of Chrom's current up b as an out of shield option, it's been my go to whenever I'm playing Chrom and the amount of damage it dishes out simply for touching his shield is absolutely disgusting, yet it's not something I've seen discussed here all that much.
