Finally got my hands on a Xperia 5 V.
5 years ago or so I got myself an Xperia 5 II and tbh it was the best phone I ever had. Yeah sure the fingerprint sensor stopped working and the screen got lightsabers after 2 years but the layout and form factor were perfect.
Note: I did flash Lineage 20 OS on it and the fingerprint sensor worked again and never failed. Leads me to believe it's not a hardware issue after all.
At the time I didn't know what kind of phone I was leaving and bought a Samsung S23U. Fantastic camera but it was big, had a shitty curved screen that meant protecting it was expensive and cumbersome... Also no SD card slot.
Had that nearly 3 years.
Decided to go back to a 5 series but being out of production for a few years meant I had to buy second hand.
Also it would appear these phones are not easy to come by (at least here in the UK). I had to settle for a mint condition second hand Japanese model.
Downside being the bootloader is locked (and as far as I can tell can never be unlocked) so I am forced to stick with the stock OS.
Also I had to sideload a few apps like eBay for some reason.
Other than this I am in love. Welcome back an actual fingerprint sensor that works even with grubby hands.
Already shoved a 1TB SD card slot in it.
Generally very happy.
