Is anyone able to recommend a suitable screen protector for 1VIII or can confirm a screen protector for 1VII will fit 1VIII please? I prefer UK shops.
So I've been doing some extensive research tonight trying to figure some things out. What bothered me was that Sony wasn't using Lytia sensors in their own devices (such as phones like the Vivo x300 ultra have). Well, it turns out they are - Sony just brands them different. Sony Brands their premium dual layer sensors as LYTIA when they are sold outside the company. For their own devices they brand them as EXMOR T or EXMOR RS. Basically the same sensor tech in all those sensors (2-layer stacked transistor pixel architecture (where the photodiodes sit on top of the circuitry to maximize light gathering)). Some additional data gathering I did - the new Sony Xperia 1 VIII has sensor sizes of 1/1.35 in the main, and 1/1.56 in the ultrawide and zoom. Strictly physics speaking sensors are bigger which will allow more light in and allow for a less fuzzy picture in low light, plus the dual stacked transistor architecture allows these sensors to punch way above their class as they collect much more light than a normal phone camera sensor. It probably won't beat out phones like the vivo x300 ultra, but it'll get damn close.
Impressive how close the 1 VIII gets to the 17 Ultra without AI.

I was on vacation in Japan when the 1 VIII announcement went out and visited the Sony Store in Ginza to try out some camera lenses.
They had the new phone out to play with in all the colours. It was pretty packed, so I didn't get much time to play with it.
A few quick thoughts:
- The bump on the back with the new camera set up is quite pronounced
- Phone seems pretty quick and responsive, colours are very nice
- There will be a Sony Style Cover that they were advertising
- Camera AI tech is as god awful as it looks in the marketing photos. I always praised Sony tech for taking realistic photos, as in close to what it looks like in reality. Nice for them to add an AI that messes that up.
Took new photos of the phone, i can't search what model is it, you guys sugested that this one was a "clone" of the original Sony Xperia G1/G2, i'm not sure, my father also told me he bought it from a Sony market back in the day, so it could be a regional model only or it could be a well done clone, you guys can tell me what model is it so i can try to find a batery for this phone and test if it works atleast, or tell me ways of how can i turn it on without a battery
Do Sony phones really not work with Xfinity Mobile? I went to the Xfinity store and they entered my IMEI number and it said it was incompatible. Has anyone found a way to make it work? Thanks.
I was excited to see the new 1 viii, but taken quite far aback by the $2500 CAD pricing. I'm coming from a 1 iii.. i can buy it in Canada unfortunately. So i got to resort to online but is this really the price of new phones nowadays?! I thought the 1 iii was pricey at the time...
After a long wait, I finally got the Sony Xperia 1 Mark VII!

Reasoning for the pics I've been posting now is that I've seen some negativity about the Xperia not being a 'click & shoot' phone... it is :)
Remember - A good photographer is not good because the camera has extreme processing, a good photographer is good because he (or she) sees beatuy in the subject.
A random picture can be more beatiful than a hard processed and overly posed photo.
In this case.- I love planes and I love old buildings, why not combine them? Which I was happy I could do here.
I know a few of us already know how to use some of the Sony Camera apps, but this is for those who probaby just purchased the 1/5 IV, V, and Pro-I.

I am designing a custom phone using my sony xperia 5 iv's internals and a custom camera set so i basically have a full swapable lens camera with the sensor performance of a professional camera with the benefits of a smart phone (data connectivity and easy cloud storage in the go) am planning on getting an E-Waste sony a7 or similar and making custom drivers for its sensor that will work with the phone I'm mostly considering the sony a7 since its got a good full frame sensor with similar architecture to the phones current sensor but and is old enough that there is likely a lot of them sitting around gathering dust
if anyone has documentation on the sensor and other things that would help with making the drivers it would be really appreciated
also, if anyone has an e-waste camera lying around i may be willing to take it of your hands depending on the logistics thanks
It is still very much buggy but when it works it works like a charm
I preorder the 1VIII in the color red. I'm curious how this color will look in person.
Will sell the headphones as I already have them.
I can't log in to google and most browser websites aren't available because of authentication. So like how i Install apps etc or is the Phone dead for that?
Thanks for help!
Hello everyone,
I’m searching for archived Sony Xperia firmware collections for the Xperia Z era before more old Sony servers and XperiFirm resources disappear permanently.
I personally collect and restore Xperia devices and would love to preserve and re-experience the full Xperia software history across different Android generations.
Mainly looking for firmware for:
• Xperia Z → Z5 Premium
• Xperia Z Ultra
• Xperia Tablets Z / Z2 / Z3 Compact / Z4
• possibly Xperia X / XZ series too
Especially:
• CE1 / CE3
• DE
• UK
• Nordic / Global
Including:
• Single SIM & Dual SIM
• Android 4.x → 7.x
• FTF archives
• service / commercial / journalist firmware
If anyone has old archives, NAS backups, Mega mirrors, or knows collectors preserving Xperia firmware, please contact me.
I’m also willing to financially compensate for truly complete collections.
Thank you for helping preserve Xperia history.
