Hello! So I saw someone make a post of their coblation tonsillectomy and it made me feel so much better that I’ve decided to do the same for anyone who may get it. I didn’t see much posts of people doing coblation, so here’s one more for you to read!

Disclaimer: What you read may seem dramatic or an over exaggerated telling, but I was writing what I was thinking at the time haha- I’m a big baby when it comes to pain, but I made it through this!

Day 0/ Day of Surgery: My admission time was at 10:00Am, but didn’t actually have the surgery until about 11:30AM. It was interesting to wake up from anesthesia, I wasn’t sure why I was so loopy but it was a bit of a pain because I was so thirsty and my throat hurt. I tried asking the nurses for water, but they refused for a while because I might vomit. I think I woke up around 3:30PM, but it was later explained by the doctor that I had some heavy bleeding which I guess made them put me deeper in anesthesia. Pain level was at like 7.5 and so was the discomfort. I was practically begging for hours to be given water, but they refused for fear that I’ll vomit. Thankfully, by 6PM they had given me droplets of water because my mouth was so dry and I was super uncomfortable. I could barely speak, but enough to chat with my best friend who came to visit. By 7:45PM they had me drink a small bottle of water slowly, then let me eat ice cream around 8:00PM.

If I’m gonna be honest, I was expecting to be out in the afternoon, but I didn’t get discharge until 10:00PM and by that point I felt so weak and just went home and slept after taking my meds.

Day 1: It hurt to swallow, especially water. Eating ice cream was okay, but it had such a weird feeling on my throat that I was full of discomfort when eating it. Jelly was the easiest and smoothest to swallow I’d say. When I finally took my medicines, the pain did go from 5.5 to a 3.5 so that’s nice.

Day 2: Woke up with dry throat I think I’ve been breathing with my mouth open. I was was taking sips of water over the night though. Ate some ice cream and took some pain meds, so we’re still at an okay amount of 3.5. Gonna try some mash potato and lukewarm chicken Alfredo soup today. Lit my ass on fire. 2 days no food except ice cream and jelly, suddenly ass on fire. I’m getting more mashed potatoes though, maybe soup I’ll put on hold. Throat still in discomfort, but it’s fine. I read tomorrow would be worse. Not looking forward to it.

Day 3: I read that today was when the pain would be spiking, and they were not wrong. Woke up today and it hurt a lot, especially drinking water. Ice cream wasn’t soothing it anymore. I took some medications so it’s kind of muffled, but it still hurts. Trying to keep myself hydrated, but drinking water hurts. Mostly felt exhausted, slept most of the day.

Day 4: Truthfully the throat pain isn’t even that bad, 3.5 at best but that’s maybe because of the medicine and the numbing spray? I went to work today thinking I’m good, but now I just feel so cold and drained- and drifting to sleep. Hurts a bit to swallow, but nothing too major. Okay it’s now several hours later and I can feel the pain reaching my ear, it’s not insanely painful but it’s there. It’s 6PM, nope I was wrong it hurts. Like a lot. I tried eating rice and tuna because doctor said it’s fine to eat normal again, I believe he might have been wrong. Started to eat ice cream again just to ease the discomfort. Ear discomfort is kinda making it hard to fall asleep.

Day 5: The pain of swallowing anything is transmitted to the entirety of my throat and ears. It stings and it hurts like a bitch. Today may actually be the worst one yet- thankfully the numbing spray helps a lot. Pain is not consistent but when it hurts, it sure hurts ALOT. This is AWFUL I HATE THIS SO MUCH IM IN SO MUCH PAIN RIGHT NOW.

Day 6: I can speak again, but the pain has not subsided. In fact, it’s worse. I feel like someone has punched me in the face. I survived most of the day at work, but I barely ate but did drink water. Dinner time now, I tried eating mashed potatoes and that still hurt a lot. I’m actually close to crying right now because I just want to eat a burger. Bad idea to be in this pain and watching Grey’s Anatomy.

Day 7: okay, there’s some improvement! Earlier when I woke up it still felt like I was getting stabbed in the neck when I drank water, but now I’m actually feeling less of that, so that’s promising! Still eating ice cream and jelly, I think my brain is getting tired of it because the brain freeze is hurting my head now. There’s progress though, yesterday I was spraying my throat with numbing spray nearly every 2 hours (and was still in pain) today I only did it this morning! So I think my pain tolerance to cold is amped up now because it hurts to eat cold things now? But when I sip a water it’s fine. My best friend got me some lukewarm congee porridge and it was the most filling thing I’ve had in a while! We watched Game of Thrones and I felt pretty okay, I think tomorrow might be better.

Day 8: Well I woke up and throat is still very much sensitive. I’m getting tired of this. Now I’m confused because I guess I’m highly sensitive to cold things now so jelly hurts to eat. Water hurts to swallow still, what the fuck is this?? I’m getting so frustrated. I can feel it in my ears, I can smell how bad my breath is, and it’s like a soreness except when I drink water, then it’s just like I’m being stabbed by chopsticks. Today was a deeply upsetting day, I didn’t eat all day, and some personal stuff happened that left me pretty let’s say… susceptible. But thankfully my sister asked me to come over to spend time with my nephew, and that did make me feel better. He asked me for pizza so, I got that- took my meds and numb sprayed my throat, then did my best to enjoy the pizza. Wreckless perhaps and painful, but it made me feel less awful.

Day 9: I feel better actually, some residue pain but it hurts a lot less to eat and drink! I ate quite a bit today, I mean there are times when pain spikes so I’d drink water to help swallow, but overall not too bad!

Day 10: Well from what I read today should officially be the turning point, and I guess it’s fine. It still stings to swallow, but it’s not insanely painful like before.

Day 11: Still some residue pain and some stinging when swallowing; but again not insanely painful like before. Just medium painful, about 4 on the scale.

Day 12: Pain has gone down significantly! Now honestly it just feels slightly sore, like you know that feeling like you’re about to get sick so your throat feels weird? It’s pretty much that, but I can eat things again! Without pain! Swallowing still has some discomfort and like a very muffled pain, but otherwise it’s like a 1/10.

Day 13: Same as yesterday, just some mild sore throat feeling, eating relatively normal now. Drinking normal too.

Day 14: Still same as yesterday, nothing much to report. Does sting when I eat a banana for some reason.

Day idk, I lost track: It barely hurts now like there’s some residue discomfort but nothing major. I did start smoking again so it might be the cause of the lingering whatever. It does still feel weird though, not in a pain way but in a I can feel my lack of tonsils 😂 Breathing feels great though and sleep quality has been great. I would recommend doing it!
