Job Switch Advice: Accountant in UAE 26M
Hey everyone,
I’m currently working as an Accountant in the UAE and planning a strategic job transition in about a year (around late 2027, aligning with my visa expiry). I’d really appreciate some guidance from finance professionals and recruiters here on how to maximize my chances of landing a strong role.
Here is a quick snapshot of my background:
- Current Role: Accountant in UAE By late 2027, I will have ~2 years and 2 months of UAE experience.
- Previous Experience (India): ~2 years and 8 months across Internal Audit & Accounts Assistant roles.
- Total Experience: ~5 years combined (India + UAE),By late 2027.
Current Challenge:
My current role in the UAE came through a strong internal referral. While I have a few contacts here, my local professional network is relatively small, and I cannot solely rely on it for my next move.
Since I have a 12-month runway, how should I best prepare starting today? Specifically:
- Networking: What actually works best in the UAE corporate market for finance professionals (LinkedIn outreach, industry events, recruiter engagement)?
- Skill/Tech Differentiation: What skills or qualifications are top UAE employers/MNCs currently prioritizing for Senior Accountant / Financial Analyst positions?
- Timeline: When should I actively start applying and engaging recruiters before my visa timeline approaches?
Any insights, dos and don'ts, or personal experiences would be immensely helpful.
