RULES:

You can sacrifice characters from early seasons who don't die until later on in the show. Whoever you sacrifice, the dead character you chose to bring back will gain that character's years on the show.

For example. If I sacrifice Tyler for Rose, Rose will remain on the show until she dies a heroic death in Season 8. Think of it like Final Destination rules.

it has been years since I saw the TVD finale but I just realized how incredibly bittersweet The Vampire diaries finale peace scene actually is when you look at the full timeline.

​Stefan and Tyler die young. Elena, Damon, Bonnie, Matt, Jeremy, and eventually all age out and die around the 2070s. Alaric most likely dies in the future before Damon and Elena due to his age difference. Klaus is already gone from the events of The Originals.

​In the end, the entire original Mystic Falls gang and almost everyone closest to her reaches the afterlife while Caroline is left behind, outliving virtually everyone she loves except Lizzie. Watching all your best friends age and die while you stay frozen in time is a terrifying kind of grief.
