Coat Maintenance

Coat Maintenance

Just adopted a retired rough coated collie. She is 6 years old and her coat is dull, dry and was lightly matted. She has hot spots, is itchy, and is a little dirty form being in outside kennels most of the time.

She is flea treated now (careful selection of MDR1 safe brand even though she is clear). I have brushed out most of the tangles. We are getting a big time bath tomorrow with Chi brand deep hydrating products. I also have a finishing spray and hot spot spray. But she hates being sprayed so I am skipping the finishing spray for now until I can train her on them.

What are we feeding/doing to keep rough coated collie coats and skin hydrated and in excellent condition. (I will not be showing her and prefer a coat that lies a little more flat). My plan so far is fish oil and regular grooming.

(For Isle of Dog fans. I hear you. I plan to switch to that eventually. I just have spent a lot of $$ this month on her and need to be cautious with the budget)
