Since she was a pup, we never missed our before-bed apple slices. This is how she knows it's time to wind down and prepare for bed.

Training Collie puppy

Hello everyone! Just got my collie puppy yesterday. My goal is to train him for zootherapy (actually getting my degree in college and I studied 7 years in social work). He would be my second dog, my first one being a norwegian elkhound. Since they are very different in temperament and personnalities.

What would you recommend that I do or don't during his training / socialisation phase ? He is so calm and fearless at 10 Weeks old I don't want to ruin it.

Thank you :)

Happy 3 Week Marcy!~

I can't believe it's officially been three weeks since we brought home Marcy Mae. She's such a funny girl, LOVES the morning zooms, kisses all down her long snoot, dancing with dad, and playing with her brothers. We are so nervous about the 4th of July, though she is largely unaffected by sudden noises outside so I hope she'll be okay. Even things like the vacuum, dropping heavy things, or other random accidents she has been spooked but recovers quickly. I know fireworks are different tho...

I think in the next few weeks I'm start on new tricks/working behaviors. What are the best ones ya'll have found to work for your collies? I know something like "hold" on a mat or something can help a lot with vaccines, but I really don't know much else.

She knows sit, stay, place, down, paw, her recall is genuinely the best I have ever seen as long as I say her name three times in quick succession, and off/up the couch.

Stubborn collies?

It seems like I’m always reading how collies are very emotionally intuitive, very receptive to positive reinforcement, angelic dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I adore my almost 18 month old boy, but sometimes it feels like he’s always giving me a metaphorical middle finger. He could care less about what I am asking of him. I work with him constantly and while he has made progress, it sometimes feels like I got a defective collie. We do regular dog training classes for scent work, nature walks, he walks about 3 miles a day, more on the weekends. I have snuffle mats, chews, puzzles. Anyone else have extremely stubborn collies?

Food portion advice

Hi all, I have 2 collies, one 40 lb female and one 70 lb male. They both eat Nutro Natural Choice kibble but I'm having a hard time figuring out what amount to feed them. Currently we feed them each 2 cups a day (1 in the morning, 1 in the evening) but it feels really wrong to feed them the same amount. However, when we have fed the 70 lb male the recommended 3-4 cups a day, he gets pretty round. The 40 lb female is a healthy weight. The vet said the 70 lb male is a good weight, but again, it feels wrong to feel them the same amount when they are such different sizes. Any advice?

Come tuck me in Mommy

My sweet baby Sonny who puts himself to bed at night. Of course he gets tucked in! He gets kisses and a few treats when he does this.

Meet Nikky

Nikky is a little over 2 years old and he is the best dog I could have ever wished for. We go hiking together and we do man trailing to keep his head busy, although every day where he gets to hang out with his favourite humans is a highlight for him.
