Got blessed by meeting this beauty at the park

This ethereal land cloud is 5 months old and huge ,especially for a female European line! Officially marking my first ever IRL encounter with this angelic breed as well( i have rather few real life experiences with dogs in general though)Its a shame my circumstances dont yet allow me to own one myself, as its one of my dreams . I just keep drawing and researching Collies a lot lol so it was trippy seeing one . Btw the language her owner is speaking is Slovak in case anyone's confused.

hello! as the title says I might be getting a male rough collie puppy! I currently have a golden retriever Great Pyrenees mix (f)and I know that there is a world of difference between the two. Prepared to train and make sure that he has enough mental stimulatio.

are there any differences or things I should kno?

My Attention is Never Enough, please help!!

This is my first puppy. I did a lot of research prior to getting this breed. Copper is 13 weeks old and I’ve had him for 3 weeks now.

He currently has a little area of my apartment sectioned off for him. It’s an open floor plan so he can see me when I’m in the living room, dining room, or kitchen. He’s very smart. House training is going well. Tricks and name is going well. Leash is a work in progress.

But he will not stop crying! I don’t know what to do. I can’t spend every second of my time with him and he’s driving me insane. He’s got plenty of toys, stimulation (mental and physical), he’s fed and watered and he’s pottied. But as soon as interaction stops, he loses it. He naps well in his crate but when he’s out and I am not devoting every second to him, he whines nonstop. I can’t live like this.

I can’t sit down on the floor and chill or have him on the couch because he just bites nonstop. I’ve tried interrupting, redirecting with toys, stopping play. Nothing seems to help. So that discourages me from frequent hands-on interaction.

I’ll put some PB in his Kong or inside a bone which will occupy him. But as soon as it’s gone he’s back to crying. And I can’t just keep giving him PB.

I knew these were affectionate and vocal breeds but my God I can’t even go pee without him crying.

What am I supposed to do? Please help…

Getting a new puppy

We just put a deposit down for an upcoming litter.
Our boy is 7 now and we’re hoping he will be as happy with the decision as we are! What has been others experience bringing in a pup with your middle aged pups?

Hide and Seek!

Gwenny loves to dive and crawl under the bed to 'hide' when playing and if she can't see you, then clearly you can't see her!

Rough Collie Behavioral Issue

I need some advice. I had collies as a kid and have owned five collies in the past 20 years. I currently have two males, 5 and 4 years old. Our collies have always been wonderful, gentle, loving companions. We got the younger one as a puppy from a local breeder - and she urged us to get him at 6 wks old. He is what I call a farm collie - stockier and plumper than my other collies but still beautiful. He is rambunctious but is a sweetie. He lives for approval and love. When he gets excited or wants to play - he's a bit rough with the older one which we try to stop. His face is so expressive - mostly just the face of someone who wants to know he's a good boy. He can be quite stubborn. Now to the problem...

About a month or two ago - he was getting a bit rowdy inside and I just swatted his butt (not hard at all and he's got very thick fur on his back side). But he did not like it. He turned, jumped up and pushed my chest barking and nipped my chest. It was intense and aggressive. I used my authority voice and used my body with my hands behind me to push him back and calm him down. It's happened twice since then - once when I tried to get the empty box he had gotten from the trash and was eating and another time when I took him by the collar to get him to come inside. The second incident was VERY intense and frankly scared me because he lunged several times and it took him more than a few seconds to calm down. After the incidents - he seemed subdued like he knew he did something wrong and was very careful around me (as I was around him). I don't think it's a dominance/alpha thing - looking back I just think it was more a matter of me interfering with something that really mattered to him. I adjusted the way I deal with him - less raising of my voice, more approval-based, careful with my hands so he doesn't associate them with something bad. Things seem to have improved. It's important to note that the "triggering events" have occurred many many many times in the past four years - these aren't new issues as he loves to sneak paper towels out of the trash and I sometimes have to guide him inside to get him to come. It's always been just more of a game to him that I would eventually win but he liked making me chase him a little.

Today, however, we were sitting on the patio and they started barking at something. Usually they stop quickly when I tell them to - but sometimes they get fixated and just keep barking - like today. It's the older one that does the most barking so I stood up and calmly tried to get him to stop. I must've jumped or something and it spooked the older dog and he stepped back frightened. The younger one lunged up at me snarling and nipped my chest. I didn't react - just turned away. It only lasted a second and I walked back inside. The younger one followed me trying to get me to pet him - I guess sensing we had had another disagreement. I just ignored him, sat down, and he came up to me and laid his head in the crook of my arm giving me the "I need approval" look. He was back to normal.

I've never had this happen with a dog of mine. I absolutely never hit, kick, or beat my dogs. I yell when things get too crazy - which I'm working on - but 95% of the time is loving and calm times. I don't know why the younger male is doing this. He only does this to me - not my spouse. But he is so loving all the rest of the time - he's my bud. I'm worried. Ideas?

Need Advice

Hello everyone! Just coming on here to look for any advice/insight. My parents and I really would like to get another collie, however; we don’t whether a boy or girl puppy would fit our family best? We already have 3 dogs: 1 male rough collie - 7 yrs old and around 90 lbs, 1 male pittie/mastiff mix - 7 years old, and 1 female corgi/pomeranian mix - 5 years old. We have an affinity for boy dogs but are worried that our 2 older males will not like having a uneutered male in the house. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Coat Maintenance

Just adopted a retired rough coated collie. She is 6 years old and her coat is dull, dry and was lightly matted. She has hot spots, is itchy, and is a little dirty form being in outside kennels most of the time.

She is flea treated now (careful selection of MDR1 safe brand even though she is clear). I have brushed out most of the tangles. We are getting a big time bath tomorrow with Chi brand deep hydrating products. I also have a finishing spray and hot spot spray. But she hates being sprayed so I am skipping the finishing spray for now until I can train her on them.

What are we feeding/doing to keep rough coated collie coats and skin hydrated and in excellent condition. (I will not be showing her and prefer a coat that lies a little more flat). My plan so far is fish oil and regular grooming.

(For Isle of Dog fans. I hear you. I plan to switch to that eventually. I just have spent a lot of $$ this month on her and need to be cautious with the budget)

That look begging you to postpone brush day

She’s actually very good for the brushing itself and gets lots of treats after!! She just always gives the biggest sad eyes when the brush comes out 😂
