Said our final goodbyes to our Joey after 30 days of having him back

Some of you may recognize Joey, as his “found” post is the second-most upvoted post on this subreddit.

Today, Joey suffered what we assume was a stroke. He waited until we got home, tried to get up, then fell over. He twitched for about 20 minutes before he stopped breathing.

Joey was a difficult dog, but we loved him for it. Over the past year, he went through so many things but always managed to get through them. 38 days ago, he went missing, and 30 days ago, he was found. He was missing for 8 days and somehow survived without eating for those 8 days. He truly was our miracle dog.

I wanted to let Joey’s little Reddit family know, especially since so many people still reach out to me for updates on his health.

We’ll forever miss hearing Joey constantly barking, trying to herd us around, and being the most resilient, loving, and incredible dog we could have ever asked for.

Hopefully they can fix his hip in doggy heaven so he can finally run again. 💜

My ex friend is genuinely in the most insufferable relationship ever and I can’t find a way to help her… Does anyone know what to do?

So basically what the title says… but here’s the context

I (15F) used to be REALLY good friends with this girl, who I’m gonna call Kat, and I used to have a thing with this guy (15M), who I’m gonna call Dawg. I’m calling them Kat and Dawg because they literally fight like cats and dogs 😭

Anyway, I was talking to Dawg back in December 2024. It wasn’t anything serious, but we did end up sending each other nudes, and he screenshotted mine and leaked them. Obviously that sucked, and I haven’t forgotten about it.

Then in January 2025, not even a month later, Kat started dating Dawg. They’ve been together ever since...

At first I genuinely thought it would last like a month, but Kat got REALLY attached to how possessive he is. I first realized how bad it was when I noticed he hated her hanging out with me, even if we were in a big group or a class together.

Then she started joking about how she “couldn’t talk to male teachers for too long” because of him. Eventually, I found out she had been made to drop basically all of her male friends and anyone else he didn’t like. I was one of those people.

They eventually broke up for literally one night, and then the next day at school I saw them hugging and Kat was sobbing. I know she knows he’s toxic because she doesn’t even deny it anymore when people bring it up.

The worst thing I’ve personally heard him say was when people were asking him if he had “cracked yet.” He literally said, “I’d only crack if she lost 20 pounds.” I told Kat what he said and she started crying.

AND SHE STILL STAYED WITH HIM.

He’s also made one of those “rules I have for my girlfriend” videos, and one of the rules was basically that if she touched his weed, he would “beat the fuck out of her.” There were multiple other rules that were along the same lines.

And there’s even more than just the stuff involving Kat. When I was friends with Dawg, Dawg was expelled in 7th grade over threats against the school. He has also been caught multiple times showing sexual material to younger students, including kids as young as 3rd grade, he’s brought edibles to school and given them to other students, and made threats to one of my male friends for talking to Kat “too friendly” which got him a warning with the principal… even though he had a full plan to jump my friend.

Kat knows about all of this and constantly makes excuses for him. A lot of the time, her explanation is that he has really bad childhood trauma because his dad abused him and left when he was around 5.

As someone who also has very complex trauma, I completely understand that trauma can affect someone’s behavior, and I feel bad that he went through that. But trauma doesn’t excuse threatening people, controlling your girlfriend, threatening violence, bringing drugs to school, or exposing younger kids to inappropriate material.

At this point, I honestly don’t know how I’m supposed to feel. I obviously feel bad for Kat because she’s my old friend and I don’t want anything bad to happen to her, but I’m getting really frustrated because she KNOWS he’s toxic. She acknowledges it, cries when she hears some of the things he says, and still chooses to stay with him.

I know abusive/toxic relationships can be complicated, so I’m not trying to say “just leave” like it’s that easy. I guess I’m more asking whether I’m wrong for being at the point where I’m starting to feel less sympathy for her, especially after everything she knows about him.

Also, I’m not trying to diagnose either of them or claim I know everything that happens in their relationship. I’m just talking about the things I’ve personally witnessed/heard and the things I know have happened.

SOSO SORRY FOR LONG EXPLANATION

What are your favorite tricks you’ve taught your beagle?

My Bogey rings a bell to let us know when he needs to go outside… it was actually the only way we could potty-train him, lol.

Tomorrow, I want to spend some well-needed time training Bogey, and I want to know what tricks others have taught their beagles.

Show me a picture of your dog and tell me 2 things you like about them and 1 thing you dislike about them

I posted this because reflecting on likes and dislikes builds self-awareness, improves emotional expression, and strengthens relationships… and what is more important than a human's relationship with their dog?

Two things I like about my Bogey are that he has a very big personality, which makes him an awesome best friend, and that he is very unique compared to other beagles because he has a genetic defect that makes him shorter. One thing I dislike about him is that he takes up a lot of unnecessary room in the bed lol.

Is this breeder unethical?

We’ve been talking to a Basset Hound breeder who’s been breeding dogs since around 1970, and Basset Hounds since the ‘80s or ‘90s (I think). She seems incredibly knowledgeable and clearly loves her dogs, but there’s one thing that’s throwing me off.

First, I’ll start with what I love about her…

She’s in her 70s, and you can just tell she’s dedicated a huge part of her life to these dogs. I met with her in May of this year, and she had photo albums full of pictures of her dogs and their bloodlines from over the years. She also used to show her Basset Hounds, which I thought was really cool.

One of my favorite parts was when she showed me the pedigree for the planned June 2027 litter. She went through both the dam’s and sire’s bloodlines, and the pedigree went back several generations. She also gave me three handwritten pages explaining both bloodlines, what kind of temperaments she expects from the litter, and tips on raising a Basset puppy.

She keeps in touch with a lot of the families who have bought puppies from her just to make sure the dogs are doing well. She’s very open to people coming to meet her and talk about the puppies before committing to one. The puppies are raised around other dogs and cats, and she’s pretty selective about where they go. She told me she won’t sell to homes with certain breeds (specifically Chows), and she also won’t sell a puppy if someone just doesn’t seem like the right fit.

Now here’s the one thing that’s making me hesitate…

When I met her in May, she showed me a young male Basset (the one in the photo). He looked to be around 3–4 months old at the time, and she said he’d probably be the father of the June 2027 litter.

From what I’ve read, most people recommend waiting until a male is around 2 years old so all of his recommended health testing can be completed before he’s used for breeding. If I’m remembering correctly, he would only be around 16–17 months old by June 2027, which is why this caught my attention.

Is there any reason this would be considered okay if she’s bred and knows his bloodline so well and has a pretty good idea of what his temperament will be? Or is it still generally recommended to wait until he’s fully mature regardless of how well his pedigree is known?

Everything else about her seems so responsible that I’m honestly wondering if I misunderstood what she meant. Is there any situation where breeding a male around that age would be considered okay, or is this a major red flag? Based on everything else I’ve said, would this be enough for you to look for a different breeder, or do you think I should ask her to clarify first?
