Considering moving to Philly. Looking for recommendations/tips

Hey everyone. I’m a 27 year old young professional from Long Island, NY. Thanks to my job I have the opportunity to transfer out of state, and Philadelphia is at the top of my list.

The biggest reason is honestly housing. Around here, a 1 bedroom condo can cost $300-400k. In Philly that amount can get you a 3 bedroom house. It’s kind of crazy.

I would be working in southwest Philadelphia. Pretty close to the airport.

If I do end up transferring, I’d probably rent somewhere in the city for a couple years before deciding whether I want to stay long-term and buy a house. My budget would be $1500-2000/mo for a 1bdr rental.

For people who live in Philly:
What neighborhoods should I check out?
What’s the social scene like for someone in their late 20s?
Are people generally pretty friendly?
Any random advice or things you wish you knew before moving here?

Just trying to get a feel for what life is actually like outside of Zillow and Google Maps. Thanks!
