Solaris & Tress of the Emerald Sea

Unplanned, I read Solaris a few weeks before I read Tress & the Emerald Sea. They don’t have too much in common in terms of themes, writing style, etc. In fact, they couldn’t be more different However, I did really enjoy the similar alien, non-aqueous/liquid sea concept. I wonder if Sanderson was inspired at all by Solaris. It’s such a fascinating plot device.

I also recently read Atlantic by Simon Winchester, which is a history of the Atlantic ocean and humans have been obsessed with/terrified by the sea since they first laid eyes on it.

Anyways, I thought it was a cool connection!

25% of DC Streets Fully Run!

After becoming bored with running my typical DC routes/trails a friend turned me on to CityStrides. It connects to your Strava and tracks the amount of streets you have fully run in any city. I finally hit 25% in DC today!

It has really reinvigorated my love of running. You run a lot more streets, which means more annoying lights. But you never get bored by running the same routes over and over. I have seen so many parts of the city that I never would have seen and it makes it a fun game to hit as many nodes as you can each run.

Highly recommend. 10/10 improvement to my marathon training.

Shoutout to runners these last few days

I just wanted to give a shoutout to all the runners that braved the heat these last few days. You crushed it! Your fall races will be easy compared to those runs. I saw a few of you cruising. Keep it up!

Beautiful Rainy Miles on the Canal Path

Out and back west from Fletcher’s Cove. Mostly had the trail to myself. But there were a few other intrepid runners and cyclists getting miles in.

Running to DC from Mt Vernon

Had a beautiful run this morning after getting dropped off at Mt Vernon and running back to DC. Can’t get much better for a long run. 16/17 miles.
