Sergeant of the British Rifle batallion in Colombia, 1818. Illustration by me.

The Illustration here is based of Alexander Alexander's memoir that refers to the uniform as a green jacket with republican buttons, white pants and shirt, and the backpacks were all from different origins. He also tells an anecdote where he says that his cap had a golden bugle, and that he had two bugles in his tailcoats. The soldier here is a sergeant second, marked by the badge in his arm. The regiment was originally made up of Irish and English volunteers, some veterans of the napoleonic wars and mercenaries, eventually the ranks were filled by indigenous people.

Grenadier of Cundinamarca in 1814, Illustration by me

Based on the painting of the Battle of Calibío by José María Espinosa, the bearskin back would have a yellow grenade on the fabric. At this time the Cundinamarcan Army would have used the same ranks and badges as the spanish, Sergeants would also carry spontoons and red epaulletes and capitans would have only one strap and two button coloured epaulletes, also a lighter coat. Unlike the picture, Rankers would use sandals as they were cheaper and more comfortable than boots. The picture shows a spanish musket.

Gran Colombian Infantry Drummer (1823) Illustration by me

Based on the drawing of Y. Aliriventz, showing the infantry drummer for the Antioquia, Girardot, Rifles, and Alto Magdalena batallions, the coat is surely british. The cocade is strangely arrenged, and this uniform probably inspired the modern honour guard uniform.
