Fresh Grad Job Offer (25k Gross) in Ortigas vs Daily Commute from Cavite, Is it worth taking?
Hi everyone,
I’m a fresh graduate who recently received a job offer for an entry-level tech/consulting role at a software company located in Ortigas Center (Pasig).
I’m trying to weigh if the offer is fair and physically sustainable given my location, and I’d appreciate some perspective from those commuting from Cavite or working in Ortigas.
Offer & Work Details:
* Base Pay: ₱25,000 Gross / month
* Contract Term: 36 months (3-year fixed contract)
* Work Setup: 5 days/week Onsite in Ortigas (Work From Office)
* Schedule: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Mon–Fri
* Overtime Clause: Standard office hours, with a clause stating overtime is not compensated in cash (time-off in lieu at management's discretion)
* Benefits: 13th-month pay, standard leaves (5 VL / 12 SL), performance bonus, laptop provision, standard government benefits (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG).
Logistics & Financial Breakdown:
I live in Central Cavite. If I choose to commute daily:
* Est. Fare: ~₱300 – ₱350 daily roundtrip (Bus/UV + MRT/Carousel) = ₱6,500 – ₱8,000 / month
* Est. Food: ~₱200/day for meals/coffee = ₱4,400 / month
* Est. Travel Time: ~2.5 to 3.5 hours each way (5 to 7 hours of daily travel)
* Net Take-Home: Around ₱22,500 after deductions. After transport + daily office meals, I’m left with roughly ₱10,000 – ₱11,000 for savings or personal expenses.
My Questions:
* Is ₱25k gross fair for an entry-level tech/consulting role?
* Is a 3-year contract common for entry-level tech roles in the PH? What red flags or clauses should I watch out for in long-term employment contracts?
* Is daily commuting from Cavite to Ortigas doable long-term, or am I setting myself up for quick burnout?
* Would renting a shared bedspace near Ortigas (~₱4k–₱5k) make more financial and practical sense than commuting daily?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their experiences or advice!
