The Adventures of Juck3000, 3: TFG (Modern)

Been awhile since my last post, much has changed with my base. I completed the other coke oven to double up my production. Then I proceeded to build a large structure around it to house a future steam system. I’m pretty happy with it, nothing interesting on the inside just yet, only barrels of creosote.

I cleaned up the staircase to the bridge and river, I forgot to take a picture of the new bridge and boat construction area so I’ll be sure to include that next time. I tore out that chestnut slab plank that spans that whole water way, much needed upgrade.

The egg symbol in my animal husbandry page has rotted, I find that funny enough to include.

I went back up to the subarctic, killing most nearby predators along the way by digging a 3x3 hole with open trapdoors at the top. Learned the hard way that cats can climb out if it’s not 3 blocks deep. Wolves and bears only need a 2 block deep hole. I stopped really worrying about cougars, I can walk right up to them without them wanting to eat me.. not sure what that’s about so I’ve considered them non-threats for the most part. You can see my 3 musk oxen score while I’m travelling south on my beautiful trail. 1 bull and a couple cows. Brought a rabbit back too.

Then come Autumn I built a rowboat and went south for kaolin, did not take me long to find some. Lucky lucky me. I’m still out there on that continent, it’s very pretty. I’ll be back hopefully after the ice melts so that ocean will be hospitable. Then I’ll go to the beneath for graphite as usual. I’ll be eyebrows deep in steam soon enough!

Cheers all!

The Adventures of Juck3000, 2: TFG (modern)

Winter is upon me in my new home. Obtained a helve hammer to process my wrought iron. Theres no cassiterite in my area as far as I’ve seen so far. I’ll have to check the mountains slightly further away. In the meantime I’ve been using bismuth bronze since I’ve been blessed with a mine that produces both zinc and bismuth in large quantities. I’ve almost got a second coke oven but I will table that until the snow melts.

Still need some wooly animals, I know of some back up the path from where I came but I’d want an animal cart for that mission.

Last post someone mentioned I should try the TFG roofing and I did, very nice stuff. I went all out and made a roofing hammer for more convenient construction. My closest source of flux is a ruined castle just off the path I made to get here, should have enough for quite some time but I’d like to find the stone type and maybe some tin next summer.

I managed to get in a growing season of crops by the the skin of my teeth, I must say an average temperature of +4c where I currently am is a huge improvement from -11c. I have a triple oven in my new cabin so that should keep me toasty.

I’ll keep adding screenshots to these posts, I appreciate the feedback.

The Adventures of Juck3000: TFG Modern (hard)

Early spring, still about -15c but I’m ready to leave this place and head south. I’ve run out of meat, this climate is brutal. I’ve got my bloomery and anvil ready as soon as the weather permits on outta here! Very beautiful territory I must admit but if it’s winter 3/4 of the year here, progressing is too dang slow! I might even just keep travelling south until I find kaolin clay! I’ll be back one day, not a goodbye forever. I’m excited to spread my civilization south :)

The Adventures of Juck3000:TFG Modern (hard)

We’re back in it! No longer hardcore mode, maybe I’ll try it again depending on what people say about this current play through. This new update it crazy cool! Nice job to the devs, very well done but you removed my beloved Kvass.

My world is 7% continental, snow hight is set to 8.
I spawned further north than most, by design of course. At spawn the average temperature is -7c but me being me I moved a few thousand blocks further north bringing the average down to -11. Found some rye and barley as well as a little bit of cabbage on my way up. In my area there’s really only lentils and radishes. For animals there’s dire wolves, some grizzlies, polar bears, yaks, oxen, caribou, lemmings, moose and quail. I did find some snowberries at spawn but no other fruit.

I set up a small house with 2 campfires for a fireplace room made with mud bricks. Later set up a stove in August when I saw that the snow was no longer melting in the daytime. I geared myself up in full primitive clothing and retrieved both tin and copper from nearby sources. Enough to construct a bloomery, however; by then it was already too cold for any iron mining. By November it was already -22c on my front porch, I can’t survive more than 5 minutes outside even with my clothes and soups. My charcoal forge is not hot enough to keep me alive even if I’m nearly standing on top of it.

This predicament implies that I’m just too far north. To my east it’s ice sheet mountains biome, north is more doldrums biome like where I am currently but less trees, large shallow lakes and flattened ground biome. West is an ocean riddled with sea ice. very beautiful terrain, especially the mountains. When the weather permits I will beat a path south to find a more hospitable region, maybe -5c, as I do wish to keep this base accessible until I can get string for warmer clothes with polar bear hide. I want to go further north eventually.

Anyone have tips to better insulate a house? The firmalife ovens do a very good job but getting wood has been proving to be a treacherous task. Freezing to death is much worse than overheating, hence I’m no longer hardcore when I’m up north. Last I tried I froze to death in the muffle of the summer!

Cheers all!

A specific server

I am interested in a tech locked server that was advertised a couple months ago. The OP mentioned it was only possible to advance to steel age and I was hoping that it still existed. Dm me ⚔️

Steam explosion!

I am not sure which one it was, either the alloy smelter or the steam forge hammer blew up seemingly randomly when I was not using them, quite a while after I was done using them. They were beside each other with a blaze burner between them. They were both hooked up to steam and venting out the topside. My liquid boiler was out of fuel and full of water (64 blocks away from the forge setup). I want to prevent whatever just happened. Maybe I’m crazy and a creeper somehow got behind me and made it look like the steam stuff blew up.. or maybe I accidentally placed a torch on the vent? I’m not sure, I didn’t know that those machines could explode but I’m mad that I have to make new ones 😂
The system was indeed full of steam and a steel mechanical pump was driving steam towards the machines. the boiler was not producing steam when I ran down to check it.
I hope someone knows what I did wrong or what may have gone wrong for those machines to explode so that I can prevent it from happening again 🥲

P.S
I agree with the guy who just posted about sloops^^ they deserve some adjustment. Really fun boats though, should try and add a briggate to the game one day if the pack can support something like that :)
