thoughts on this response:
The perspective I gained navigating the United States as a Mexican-Persian man shapes what I would bring to NYITCOM and to the patients I will eventually serve. Growing up between two cultures and two sets of expectations gave me a lens that I carry into every interaction.
When I interpreted for my grandmother during doctor visits, I learned that advocating for a patient goes beyond translating their words. I had to understand what she meant to ensure her concerns reached her providers. That experience showed me that effective care requires understanding the whole person, a skill I plan to bring to every patient interaction.
Through Love Covers All, I witnessed firsthand what systemic barriers look like from the patient's perspective. Veterans I served described traveling hours to access care, navigating systems that were difficult to understand, and feeling unheard by institutions meant to support them. That work has been formative to my growth as a future physician.
Something that uniquely inspires me about the opportunity to study at NYITCOM is that I can continue serving the diverse populations that have shaped my commitment to medicine and learn to do so with greater depth and clinical skill.
