After much experimentation I have finally found a nice little hunting load for the Swiss rifle.
This is a fairly stout load, so work your way up in your particular rifle, but by no means is it a classic bubba’s pissin hawt.
I used PPU Brass (because that’s what you get these days )
51.5gr Accurate 4350
Berger VLD-Hunt 168gr projectile
Federal 215 LR mag primers
This is my 5 round velocity test group (2” sticker, 6-o’clock hold). I shot this, another 5, and another 10 of 168gr SMK that all came out around 2700fps on the Athlon chrono with a respectable SD of 9.4fps across the 20.
Now this is only 50y from the bench, but I was grouping about 2.5-3” at 200y prone, spot on point of aim with the original open irons.
I tried some experimenting with jump, but there was no real difference between the round just kissing the lands vs a couple thousands off. Not much wiggle room in the K31 anyway.
Certainly a fine load for hunting. I’d bring the velocity down quite a bit for target shooting.
Enjoy
