Moving used, personal electronics to Brazil (via shipping container, freight forwarder) - Paperwork needed?
Hi chaps, we are moving to Florianopolis later this year. I'm an IT worker and and and audiophile, so so have a sub, 2 pairs of speakers, 6 or 7 laptops, 4 PCs (inc 3 servers) and a total of about 35 hard drives and many, many chargers and power adapters, They are are used and personal.
I will remove the hard drives from the servers and get some HDD transport cases for those (and remove any PCIe cards, esp GPUs and wrap separately). I plan to fill the interior of all the servers and PCs with bags of expanding foam to stop other bits from falling off.
All this will be shipped by a freight forwarder by sea (other than a Macbook and an old Asus Zenbook which I will put in my carry-on)
What I've seen from AI is that every box sent via the freight forwarder needs to have a box number and inventory. Fine for clothes, kitchen utensils, etc, but AI says I need a serial number for every item in every single box. So for HDDs I can do that easily, but wtth the PCs/Servers as they are all hand built, how exactly do I deal with with that? Would the serial number of the motherboard be sufficient? Or do the need the PSU, serial as well?
I also have like 4 switches, 4 CCTV cameras, etc. I'm completely at my wits end - I know I need to give each box a number and provide a document with what's inside, but for electronics I can't get a straight answer. AI says I have to get a serial number for literally everything. I mean to I have to even do it for every PSU and charger I take?
Any help much appreciated.
