Long Distance CONUS PCS and personal vehicle
Thank you in advance for reading my post - we are struggling to decide what is our best option. New to reddit, please go easy on me :)
Spouse is geo-baching from California to Virginia. This is our first move like this, and the last as well b/c we are at the end of his career. We were told that basically we have these options:
He can fly, receive 1 day per diem, and they will ship HHG only.
He can drive, receive a small mileage amount ($.205/mile), a per diem for the distance (~7 days), and they ship HHG.
With these two options it seems like if he doesn't want to drive (option 1), we are basically out of pocket completely to ship our car. Is that right?
Has anyone PCS'd this large of a distance CONUS (~2700 miles) but didn't drive and the military compensated them in some way for all or part of the cost of shipping the car?
