Per NJ.com by way of Yahoo. $43M in Tax Credits through the Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion (CAFE) program was awarded by NJEDA. Will be relaunched as the Rialto Center for Creativity operated by Westfield Arts Collective. The credits account for about 80% of total costs.
Plans include a performance and event venue with capacity for up to 450 people, gallery space, classrooms and studios for workshops, rehearsals and community programs, as well as areas for lectures, films and special events.
Preferably not national chains but other than that I’m easy!
Found these updated renderings from the Downtown Cranford Schematic Plan (2026) recently posted to the "Know" page on the main Streetscape Project site.
Project looks cool overall. Hope it moves forward, would love to see both downtown traffic improved and nice gathering places from the added pedestrian space!
And here we go again….

Woodmont properties is the developer/manager behind Woodmont Station here in Cranford. Scotch Plains tapped them to tackle planning and re-development of a bunch of parcels near Park Ave and Westfield & Bartle Aves in their downtown area.
The attached photos and linked PDF were shared during a recent public information session earlier this week.
Overall proposal is to:
- relocate and consolidate Police/Fire/EMS HQs to a parcel on Plainfield Ave
- Build 350 housing units and 10k sf of retail space across 2 “districts”, And move the Town Hall and library onto a new 3rd district, each with new parking garages as well.
- Full build out over 7-10 years.

Hey folks, with the World Cup coming up soon (and with both game and transit ticket prices seeming to be ridiculous for actually attending any games in person at the Meadowlands) - I was curious if anybody knew of any good bars in the area that were good for watching soccer games at in general, or that had announced any specific plans or watch parties for the World Cup?
No specific preferences on any particular type of place. Back when I lived in Hoboken, Mulligan’s was the go-to soccer/rugby bar (along with Finnegan’s for a lesser extent since it was an Arsenal bar) - curious to see if there were any equivalent to that in the area for anyone who might know.

Thanks to all who have participated in both the final round of voting, as well as in previous rounds over the past couple months!
We have officially determined a winner of the Chomp-ionship Matchup between our top two establishments as voted on by the good people of r/Cranford - our final showdown pitted two longtime local legends in the Cranford culinary scene against each other, both equally worthy and deserving of victory and praise in their own right, but as the famous documentary The Highlander goes: "There can be only one!"
Without further ado, and by a margin of just ONE vote out of dozens cast, The Riverside Inn (aka "The Dive") has just barely edged out The Cranford Hotel to be crowned r/Cranford's inaugural March Madness of Bars/Restaurants for 2026.
To many, its probably not a shock that Riverside Inn won - its one of only a few actual bars in Cranford proper itself, a fun historic origin story as a speakeasy in a flower shop basement during prohibition, and regularly receives good press for both its food and quintessential "dive bar" atmosphere. You can even buy wooden collectables of the place on Etsy (and apparently the Cranford Hotel too). To me, it is a shame to have to pick only one of the two places as I love both - but if Cranford Hotel had to lose to someone, it at least lost to a worthy opponent IMO.
I'll be adding a fun sidebar image soon highlighting our new Champion.
Thanks to everyone for participating - this was fun to do and a great way to engage more people on here. Feel free to suggest other fun activities and improvements we can do on here as well!
Hello, I have a question regarding an unfortunate situation my fiancée and I went through yesterday in downtown Cranford. We were leaving a parking garage from around the 3rd floor, and behind us was a maybe 14/15 year old boy on a very expensive electric bike. He tried to pass our car but since we were almost down to the first level, we did not let him, he was also very close to our car so we got nervous and just kept driving.
When we got to the first floor, he stopped in front of our car, impeding us from leaving the garage. My fiancée rolled down his window and asked if the boy was okay, and he just stood there. In a few seconds, around 4 other teenage boys pulled up, also riding expensive electric bikes and all of them had on face coverings, those beanies that only show their eyes, almost as if they went out that day looking for trouble. They started harassing us, we did not react at all since we figured they just wanted the attention. They started asking to fight my fiancee, calling him names, threatening to break his headlight, touching his car. He kept his cool the entire time, and I told one of them to move and that no one was laughing at this. They started mocking that sentence and screaming “go home kid, no one is laughing”, which again, we did not give them a reaction.
They finally moved from the front of our car, and we got to a red light right by the garage, and they again surrounded our car and kept doing the same thing. I told my fiancée to just drive as the light had been green for some time and they wouldn’t let us go, but when he started driving and almost tapped one of their bikes, they finally moved. They kept driving us for a bit, saying insults at our car window, but we eventually lost them.
I no longer feel safe in a community that is already so expensive to live in, with privileged kids who likely get no consequences to their actions at home running around threatening people who just want to go on about their day.
My question is, if this happens again (we are in that area everyday), what are our rights? If they start touching our car and threatening, what can/should we do? Their faces were not visible, and they clearly wanted attention, but this is not okay. I also worry the authorities will not do anything considering the demographics/social status of these boys, and I’m just anxious about being in that area and being harassed again, or them finding our car and doing something. Has anyone else experienced this in the Cranford area? I wonder where these kids will be in a few years, I honestly worry, this was not something me or anyone I know did for fun when they were kids.
