Fanfiction made me realise how much people love Joel

I've watched the show and plan to play the games in a week or two, but wanted to check out some fanfiction to fill the hole the show left. When I looked at AO3, I have never seen a fandom dominated by /Reader fics and they're all Joel I am genuinely impressed. Like I read a good amount of fanfiction and have been in different fandoms, but maybe it's different because this is the first video-game fandom (not counting Arcane/lol because those are completely different)

Of course I was sad when >!Joel died!< but I did not know the man was this beloved goddamn I really expected more Ellie/Reader fics if anything. I saw posts earlier saying they stopped watching on s2ep2 because of it but if fanfiction is indicative of people's character preferences all the negative posts on s2 I saw make sense now lol

That being said if anyone has good fanfic recs just generally (excluding /reader fics and Joel/OC) I will gladly take them

I put this under the general question flair because I didnt know where else to put it

(SPOILER) Is it bad that I don't think Elodie is dead

I must say it's been like a year since I read Jeans book, but when I finished them, I remember thinking, "I wonder if Elodie really is dead."

Yes, I know Nora likes to be vicious sometimes, but also can we remember how Neil started out? As he says "some of the strongest people I know are women." Who's to say Elodie didn't runaway or fake her death and has been under a false identity for sometime. She'd never come for Jean, not only because she either assumed it'd be dangerous to approach because he's been sold off or betrayed and joined the ravens, leaving her alone; but also because she knows the moriyama family is dangerous. As the ravens start to take their tumble in Jean's books, I would not be surprised if someone comes out of the shadows and its reveal Elodie.

Nora does has a somewhat systematic approach to books, where we have this very slow, beginning book that trips and falls off a ravine in terms of action on like the last few chapters. then we have action, more rising action for side plots, then a more heavy action arc around midway to end, then ends with the main character embracing their new life by being protective of our team. This is only my assumption because of how she's structured Jean's books. With that in mind, we're likely to see the dismantling of something large in the third book, someone unlikely coming to save the day, and the blossoming of a new connection, while also finally integrating themself as a true part of the team, not just temporary.

I'm guessing Elodie is going to be like Neil's uncle, which is the unexpected character that kind of saves the day a little, though I don't know how. Right now Elodie is in the position of Neil's mom, but maybe Riko is actually supposed to be the Jean's mom figure, as horrible as that sounds, and grayson takes the role of Neil's father, if we're relating the two together.

Now, I could be entirely wrong. I just feel like I haven't heard that many "Elodie is alive guys trust" theories, but maybe I haven't been active enough in the fandom. But until we see the physical body, we can't know for sure, right? Maybe I'm just in denial and can't remember the plot too. I should probably reread : D
