mich würde mals interessieren, wie die Deutsche Rentenversicherung so als Arbeitgeber in der IT ist? Insbesondere Bayern Süd und ob es auch neue, spannende Themen umsetzbar sind oder ob es sich als nur um Altverwaltung handelt.

Car manufacturer in Germany, voluntary severance programme starting in October. Amount not confirmed yet. I'd like some outside perspectives, especially from people who moved from a large corporate into tech.

Background:

• 26, 35h week, IG Metall pay band
• Apprenticeship at the company, hired on afterwards, 9 years there in total, 6 years post-apprenticeship experience
• ~3 years Service Delivery Manager on a global network services contract, including a Remedy to ServiceNow migration
• ~3 years Technical Product Manager for an internal developer platform, several hundred users, a few dozen applications, small dev team that supports us
• Replaced the legacy CI/CD platform with a greenfield build on AWS, took the unit from quarterly to two-week releases, cut approval steps per deployment substantially, migration is roughly half done
• Part-time BSc Business Informatics alongside work, a bit over half the credits done

Options:

1. Take the severance, study full-time. Degree would be finished by winter semester 2027, and a year with no other income makes the German severance taxation significantly better.
2. Take the severance and move straight into a new role. Probably better career-wise, but it costs most of the tax advantage. Degree would take until end of 2028
3. Take it and try something of my own. Appeals to me, but no concrete idea yet.
4. Don't take it. Safe, but I want out of automotive regardless.

What I'm aiming for: Tech companies, away from car manufacturing. platform / developer experience PM roles, or product roles at a scale-up. Amsterdam and Berlin are the obvious targets, Munich or remote-in-Germany also works. Started applying about a week ago, one recruiter call so far.

Questions:

1. How much does the missing bachelor's actually block you in NL, DE or wider EU tech at this level? German corporates filter hard on it. Does anyone actually care once you have six years and platform ownership?
2. Does internal platform work translate outside a corporate? I keep hearing "internal tooling isn't real product management" — is that a real perception in tech companies, or a German corporate thing?
3. Would you spend a year finishing the degree, or is that a year of momentum you don't get back?

i am searching for ways to measure distances between 4 points in mm (rectancgle) accuracy even if there is metal in +-10cm gap or even through metal. I have seen some interesting papers that mentioned UWB in mm accuracy but this does not work once metal objects are nearby. I do not want to take lasers or cameras. Maybe you have some ideas, would appreciate some ideas that i could validate.
