We moved to a new home 7 months ago. We lived in a log home prior to this and to say I have PTSD from springtails from that home is an understatement . They were so bad they would crawl on ceiling from where they came in near top boards between wall and ceiling and drop on to my bed. They were in every window, in carpet, etc. They were bad from May-August. Despite looking for any moisture issues and having exterminator help, we could never find the root cause. They would eventually die down come fall. Fast forward, to our new home and wishful thinking I would never see one again. Unfortunately it’s May again and I’ve now seen them in particularly one area including inside along the windowsill in our master bathroom which is on second floor. Outside this window is part of the lower level roof. I can see them outside on the roof, on flashing of roof and siding of home by window up there. I haven’t seen them in the tub which is on exterior wall, sink, etc, just window. We actually plan on getting a new roof within next month. I have investigated the rest of home and so far haven’t seen any any where else. I’ve never lived in a two story home. Why would they be on roof and around just this one window? I know our roof is old but no leaks or missing shingles. I do know we have granules in our gutters from the roof. Could they be in gutters? This bathroom window is between our master bedroom and our daughter’s bedroom (same roof below her window) and haven’t seen them in either of these windows. I’m trying my best to not freak out but I honestly have ptsd from the infestation we dealt with every year for 8 years. I’m trying to take care of them asap before they become a bigger problem. Any advice would help! I was hoping the last house was the issue since it was log and the construction of it left thousands of crevices and cracks for them to come in. I just want to be able to sleep without them coming in to my bed. From my research over the years, I know they are not harmful but are hard to get rid of. Any recommendations, thoughts, etc would be appreciated.
