Swimming holes near by

Wondering what the nearby swimming scene is. Thinking Hudson River, or other nearby rivers, quarries, and what have you. Lmk if there are fun places to take a dip nearby.

Update: Ideal Newburgh Day

Hi All!

I wanted to give an update on what we did in Newburgh this past weekend. My partner and I, both 25 are really thinking about moving to Newburgh so we visited last weekend and stayed on Montgomery st to scope it out.

The day started in Beacon, with some remote work at a coffee shop. Then I went for a mountain bike ride at Ninham. Later in the day I had scheduled an apartment tour at the Lofts at the foundry. I like the building and I think it’s a good area, close to the brewery, a park, and liberty.

Then I had a fried chicken sandwich and Betty’s. Walked around bit then chilled at the bnb. In the evening I walked around the waterfront a bit, tbh not as nice as I thought but I’m also very spoiled with Long Island waterfront towns. We had a dinner at Hudson taco which was fun and chill.

In the morning we had brekkie at downstate, checked out the farmers market, and walked around north of Broadway. Breakfast was fantastic.

We drove up to New Paltz and checked out this Hudson valley vintage fest, which was hectic and cool for a little. Then we drove back down, and went to the brewery for the soccer game. Fun atmosphere and friendly folks, beer was great too. At halftime we headed into Beacon and had another pint followed by a great dinner at The Wild.

Lastly we headed to The Ellis at night for some house play. Honestly great vibes, I had no idea what to expect lol. We walked there around 10pm from Montgomery, then ubered back. Next morning we hit the beacon farmers market followed by an English breakfast.

One thing that stands out to me about Newburgh is how folks that live there actually WANT people to move here and check it out. Where I live now (North Fork) the vibe is different, people aren’t so friendly to newcomers. I think that sentiment gives Newburgh a really exciting feeling, perhaps a growing sense of opportunity. Newburgh has energy and momentum, and I don’t know how many Hudson Valley towns can say the same right now.

It’s hard not to see all the comments everywhere about how bad/dangerous Newburgh is, but I really wonder how many of those folks live there now or have lived there in the past 5 years. I mean, I drove down some streets that I’d probably think twice about walking down, but I’ve also only lived in suburban towns my entire life 😂, and I’m aware of that. Overall, Newburgh has many positives, and I’m excited for the future.

Ideal Newburgh day

Checking out Newburgh this weekend to get a feel for the city and help determine if I’d like to move there later this year. What is the most Newburgh-y day we can have in Newburgh, I want the good, the bad, the ugly, and the pretty. Give me it all.

Parking at Peekskill

What’s the parking situation like at Peekskill for commuters? Is there a monthly permit, how much, are there spots available?

Or do most people park in a free lot and walk to the station.

Please advise, thank you!

What a mess

Trains showing up at Jamaica and the guy on the microphone has no clue where the trains are going. Trains are waiting for 15 minutes before moving.

I get on the 5:27pm train headed to Ronkonkoma around 5:22pm and there are hardly any seats left.

I walk down the aisle and see a guy (on the larger side) sitting in a two seater with no one next to him. Me (on the shorter side) ask him if I could sit.

He takes a deep breath and moans, exclaims “it’s not going to be comfortable for either of us” then gets up and lets me slide in.

I don’t know if he larger than I thought or if he was just flexing but basically he didn’t move an inch. Full on man spread, elbows out. I honestly didn’t mind, I mean it’s either I’m uncomfortable standing or uncomfortable sitting.

At Bethpage I see full row open up, so I get up and move over ( he still seems upset).

I’m new to commuting and still trying to figure out what the proper etiquette is. Thoughts?
