I’ve noticed loads of toilet roll brands in the UK are now pushing “XL” or “mega” sizes, and it’s got me thinking.

The sheets are bigger, but I’ve realised I tend to use the same hand motion as before without really thinking about it, so I end up pulling off more paper than I probably need. It feels like muscle memory just takes over, which means I might actually be using more per visit even though the roll itself is bigger.

So even though the roll seems to last longer, I’m not sure I’m actually saving anything, it just kind of feels like I am.

Has anyone else noticed this? Do you find yourself actually using less with XL rolls, or does it end up balancing out or even costing more?

Curious if it’s just me or not.
